Job Description:
The Leadership Alliance (TLA) was founded at Brown University and established in 1992 as a consortium of 23 institutions to address the shortage of underrepresented minorities in graduate programs in the sciences at competitive universities; it currently consists of 42 member institutions. The goal of this increased representation is to encourage underrepresented groups to seek careers that require training in research in a variety of disciplines and fields. The Alliance consortium includes leading research and teaching universities, historically black colleges and universities, and several institutions that primarily serve Hispanic and Native American students as well as industry partners. A core value of each institution is an intimate scholarly relationship built upon student-faculty mentoring, through which opportunities for undergraduate research in the biological, physical and social sciences as well as the humanities are promoted.
In collaboration with the Executive Office the Regional Liaison is responsible for developing and managing Alliance undergraduate and graduate programs administered regionally in partnership with Leadership Alliance institutions in the region. The Regional Liaison will support the following Leadership Alliance institutions: Johns Hopkins University, Morgan State University, University of Maryland Baltimore County, University of Virginia, and Howard University. The Regional Liaison in partnership with The Leadership Alliance Executive Office will implement and develop programs and workshops and recruit participants for regional professional development and research opportunities for students pursuing PhDs, postdoctoral scholars and faculty alumni researchers. These mechanisms may take the form of scholarships, mentoring, and professional development opportunities. Collaboration with Alliance coordinators is further demonstrated through committee work, business meetings, and ongoing review and support of best practices across the consortium. This position coordinates the recruitment for the national consortium's Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP), Academic Year Workshops, and First-Year Research Experience (FYRE) and supports Executive Office staff and Alliance coordinators on the implementation of specially funded programs for undergraduate and post baccalaureate in person and virtual research programs in the D.C., Maryland, Virginia region.
This is a remote, one year fixed-term position, but the hire must be physically located in D.C., Maryland or Virginia.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Minimum Education: A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as education, public administration, program management, or a related discipline is required. A Ph.D. is preferred, especially in fields aligned with research, academic administration, or program development.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in program management, higher education administration, or a related field, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Experience working within a consortium or multi-institutional setting is preferred.
Licenses or Certificates: No specific licenses or certificates are required; however, certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or research administration (e.g., CRA) are beneficial.

Organizational and Time Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
Leadership and Facilitation: Skills in leading discussions, facilitating workshops, and engaging participants in meaningful professional development activities.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify challenges and implement effective solutions.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in using digital tools and software for program management, virtual event coordination, and communication, such as Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and virtual meeting platforms.
Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
