Job description

About the role
Apheris is revolutionizing how businesses commercialize their data for ML by enabling governed, secure, private computational access without sharing data. We are seeking an experienced Business Development Executive to identify, pursue and secure business opportunities within the biotech and pharma industries. This role requires a forward-thinking individual with a strong drive to collaborate with technical stakeholders (e.g., data science, ML engineering) to identify the potential of applying our AI-enabling technology in life sciences for a range of use cases (e.g., drug discovery, clinical trials, RWE, clinical tooling) and generate new business opportunities. In many instances, the role will facilitate collaboration and manage complex projects across organizations. An ideal candidate will have a track record of selling six-to-seven-figure enterprise software, though we place particular emphasis on technical acumen, program management skills, and an understanding of the data landscape and needs in life sciences.
What you will do
  • Business Development: Co-develop and implement business development and sales strategies to grow the company’s presence in targeted biotech and pharma organizations or geographies, tailoring approaches to each opportunity.
  • Technical Use Case Scoping and Program Management: Identify and scope use cases of the Apheris Compute Gateway and develop delivery plans, working together with data scientists and research as well as stakeholder from healthcare data companies, also in multilateral setups.
  • Prospecting and Lead Generation: Identify and pursue new business opportunities regarding the application of federated computing within the biotech and pharma sectors through outbound prospecting, including cold outreach and social selling.
  • Client Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key executives and stakeholders (incl. technical individuals such as data scientists and ML engineers) in life sciences, engaging them throughout the sales process and matchmaking to enable multilateral setups.
  • Pipeline Management: Research, identify, and generate viable customer opportunities to build a qualified pipeline, meeting and exceeding pipeline and contract targets.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with leadership and internal teams (pre-sales, customer sales engineering, AI programs) to shape commercial outreach and shepherd engagements from initial contact to contract closure.
What we expect from you

  • By month 2: Demonstrate a solid understanding of the Apheris Compute Gateway, use cases, current target segments, and key stakeholders and compellingly articulate our value proposition to diverse audiences, with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • By month 3: Show a pipeline strategy of qualified leads within life sciences (e.g., pharma, data aggregators, modelers), underpinned by initial traction in discovery calls.
  • By month 6: Establish a strong pipeline of qualified leads within the biotech and pharma sectors and secure 1-2 net new initial enterprise contracts.
You should apply if
  • You have an advanced degree in life sciences (e.g., structural or molecular biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, pharmaceutical sciences, biochemical engineering, or similar) OR multiple years of work experience as part of or interacting with life sciences R&D.
  • You have an in-depth understanding of the data needs and use cases of life sciences organizations and the existing health data landscape.
  • You have experience in enterprise software sales, preferably in life sciences.
  • You have exceptional analytical skills – Apheris is building a complex product at the interface of privacy and security in machine learning, and drug discovery/development. This does not intimidate you as you have previously thrived in settings with complex technical characteristics by translating them into industry- or business-relevant terms.
Bonus points if
  • You have 3+ years of experience in closing net new business, selling enterprise SaaS within the biotech and/or pharma sectors and consistently exceeding sales quotas.
  • You possess domain knowledge of machine learning and how it is currently being used by leading life sciences organizations.
  • You have prior experience working as a data scientist, sales engineer, or in research (or similar) in an industrial or academic biotech setting.
  • You are proficient in sales and CRM tools such as HubSpot.
  • You have a strong business network in global biotech and pharma.
If you don’t match 100% of the requirements but think you’re a good fit for the role, we encourage you to apply anyway. We care about finding people with the right values, motivation, and potential to grow, and will work with you to adapt the role if it’s the right fit.
What we offer you
  • Industry-competitive compensation
  • Early-stage equity
  • Remote-first working – work where you work best, whether from home or a co-working space near you
  • The right hardware to make you efficient – be it a laptop with Linux, Windows, or a MacBook
  • Great suite of benefits including a wellbeing budget, mental health benefits, a work-from-home budget, a co-working stipend, and a learning and development budget
  • Regular team lunches and social events
  • Generous holiday allowance (location-dependent)
  • Quarterly All Hands meet-up at our Berlin HQ
  • A fun and diverse team of mission-driven individuals with a drive to see AI and ML used for good
  • Plenty of room to grow personally and professionally and shape your own role
