Job Summary:

Responsible for directing the Accounting Operations of Geisinger Health Plan. Accounting Operations includes balance sheet and expense accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, related financial reporting and analytics to meet both internal and external needs and facilitating financial audits. Responsible for the accuracy of the balance sheet and income statement accounts (excluding clinical revenue and related receivables), maintaining appropriate documentation and for adherence to related controls and policies. Supports regulatory reporting, including Statutory Accounting, and Form 990.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for reconciliation of cash, investment and investment earnings accounts, and related activities including coding of non-patient cash deposits and periodic cash audits.
  • Responsible for reconciliation of all debt accounts including premium and discounts, interest expense, capitalized interest, etc.
  • In collaboration with Treasury team, assists with bond loan and recycling schedules and supports documentation and disclosures for debt issuances.
  • Assists with Geisinger Authority recordkeeping, monthly reporting of bond spending and facilitation of annual financial statement audit as needed.
  • Assists with maintenance of fixed asset subsidiary ledger and construction in progress schedules and completion of related accounting and reporting including coordination of annual fixed asset inventory, impairment review, capitalized labor capture and completion of related accounting.
  • Ensures the completeness and accuracy of all expenses and related liability accounts, monthly reconciliation and analysis of accounts payable, accrued expenses, RNI accruals, all labor related balance sheet accounts and other liabilities, including employee expense reimbursement activities, to ensure balances appropriately reflect amounts owed.
  • Directs analysis, amortization and reconciliation of prepaid expense accounts and assists in supply and drug inventory accounts including oversight of periodic physical inventory counts.
  • Directs FTE, labor and other expense account reconciliation and analysis, including variance analysis, to support monthly close processes and other projects as needed.
  • Maintains retirement plan financial records and serves as primary contact for defined benefit and defined contribution benefit plans audits.
  • Provides advisory services and presentation materials as requested.
  • Collaborates with Payroll and other teams to ensure pay practices are understood sufficiently to ensure appropriateness of accounting and to ensure reporting from subsidiary systems support financial reporting needs.
  • Collaborates with Finance Partners to ensure reported expenses and balance sheet activities accurately depict operational performance.
  • Supports regulatory reporting, including Form 990 and Statutory filings, as necessary.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of relationships across Geisinger to ensure the completeness and accuracy of Geisinger’s financial reports. Actively seeks input and works to improve department finance operations.
  • Collaborates closely with Finance Partner and Financial Planning and Analysis teams.
  • Reviews the work of the individuals reporting directly to the position and provides guidance, training, counseling and feedback.
  • Prepared and conducts performance appraisals for individuals reporting directly to this position.
  • Monitor’s workflow and workload within the department and works with managers and other finance leaders to redistribute and prioritize work accordingly.
  • For certain positions, coordinates interview process, interviews applicants and selects candidates for employment.
  • Remains sensitive to issues within the Controllership and works with staff to resolve conflicts.
  • Ensures consistent application of policies among staff.
