Job description

A manufacturing company is seeking an experienced, hands-on Operations Manager to lead and optimize day-to-day operations in its growing shop. This role is critical in improving operational efficiency, scheduling production, managing a small but skilled team, and ensuring high-quality output. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves position ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced, small business environment.

They are looking for a strong leader who can take charge of the production floor, improve profitability, and keep everything running smoothly from procurement to delivery.

Operations Manager Responsibilities

  • Oversee all day-to-day operations
  • Manage and schedule team members including quality control and programming staff
  • Optimize shop flow and production scheduling to improve efficiency and throughput
  • Order and manage tooling and materials to meet production deadlines
  • Estimate new jobs at a high level and assist in quoting process
  • Lead documentation from procurement through quality control and shipping
  • Maintain and enhance compliance with industry standards, including revision control
  • Evaluate and improve processes to increase profitability and minimize downtime
  • Communicate regularly with owner to report financial and operational performance
  • Foster a team-oriented, accountable, and high-performing culture on the shop floor

Operations Manager Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience, including shop floor management
  • CNC Machining in metalwork experience is required
  • Proven supervisory/leadership experience in a small business or job shop setting
  • Strong ability to manage job flow and technical operations
  • Comfortable working in a high-paced environment and wearing multiple hats
  • High level of organization, initiative, and follow-through
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including with clients and vendors
  • Proficiency in Excel; exposure to ERP systems
  • Experience with SolidWorks and Mastercam
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required with relevant experience
