WayTrade’s platform allows feedstock buyers and sellers to manage every aspect of their feedstock trading experience. The platform handles counterparty matching, logistics, transportation, financial transactions, inventory management, pricing, tracking, and more.
The Opportunity
As Operations Manager, Transportation & Logistics you will work directly with the Market Operations team to manage WayTrade’s expansive transportation network, with the goal of delivering feedstocks to our buyers reliably, on time, and in compliance with regulatory and transportation standards.
The primary focus of your role is to manage operations related to transporting feedstocks throughout our network, including dispatching railcars, managing transloading and testing operations, and communicating transportation updates and timelines to the WayTrade team. This work will enable us to grow the business, optimize costs and therefore margin, as well as demonstrate to the feedstock marketplace that WayTrade is on time and reliable.
In addition, you will bring your transportation expertise to the WayTrade team in order to elevate the team’s transportation savviness, negotiate rates with railroads, trucking vendors, and transloading terminals, secure new tranches of railcars to add to our existing fleet, and support expansion into new markets and product types.
This role is fully remote and can be located anywhere in Canada or the United States
Key Responsibilities
Primary
Managing transloading operations
Monitoring railcar movements and positions
Issuing instructions for railcar movements
Communicating with suppliers and buyers of upcoming railcar loading & dispatching
Planning & modeling trade routes for upcoming or pending trades
Reviewing transportation invoices to ensure billing and payment accuracy
Providing daily updates to the WayTrade team on all things transportation, including railcar availability for upcoming trades, changes in railcar ETAs, and updates on key projects
Managing quality testing operations, including ensuring testing SOPs are followed, and flagging to WayTrade team if any product quality is off spec
Secondary
Helping build company culture and operational playbooks
Proposing opportunities for WayTrade to improve efficiency and cost structure
Collaborating with WayTrade tech teams as we build transportation-related tech
Supporting WayTrade’s entry into new feedstock commodities, like tallow, SBO, DCO, etc.
Supporting WayTrade’s expansion into international markets, with a transportation lens
About you
You're a Self-starter. You will have guidance and mentorship but the expectation is you will be able to make your own execution plans and manage your own time.
You're a Strong communicator. You will have to feel comfortable reaching out to transportation providers, vendors, buyers and suppliers, and following up accordingly. In addition, our team is here to help you give you exposure to building early stage companies but require your input on what would be most valuable to you.
You have exceptional Prioritization and time management skills. You will at times be confronted with several competing priorities, and it will be your responsibility to determine what is most important based on factors like contractual commitments, internal deadlines, and external risks. You will be expected to utilize your time, as well as your teammates’ time, efficiently and effectively during the work week. You will be expected to work normal business hours.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in transportation & logistics
Experience working in railroads or related industry
Demonstration of organizational, communication, and project management skills
Advanced proficiency with Google Sheets (Microsoft Excel works too)
Bonus if have experience working with marine shipping channels
Bonus if have experience transporting renewable fuel feedstocks
Bonus if have experience with technology planning and/or implementation/rollout
Bonus if you have experience working in early-to-mid stage startups
