Job description

This is a remote position.

We are seeking an experienced Integrated Database Management System (IDMS) Expert for a mainframe modernisation project.

12-month freelance contract (remote), working with a respected client based in Germany. The role is central to a multi-year transformation programme, focusing on the architectural evolution of legacy database systems into modern, scalable platforms.

Language requirement: English only.

Responsibilities:

Manage and optimise legacy IDMS environments to ensure operational stability
Design and implement robust migration strategies from IDMS to RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
Build and manage ETL processes to support clean and efficient data migration
Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of migration activities with overall programme goals
Conduct performance analysis and post-migration tuning
Maintain detailed documentation of all migration processes and architecture decisions

Requirements

Deep practical experience with Integrated Database Management System (IDMS)
Demonstrated success in migrating IDMS environments to relational database platforms
Strong understanding of database architecture, data modelling, and optimisation techniques
Knowledge of data security, compliance, and governance standards
Excellent communication skills for technical and stakeholder collaboration

Preferred Qualifications:
