Job description

Role Overview

Join a family-owned business with over 40 years of history, renowned for crafting top-of-the-line, long-lasting high-pressure drain cleaning equipment. The company is in an exciting growth phase, and this role is pivotal in expanding the sales function, starting with the Northeast region. While there is a base of existing accounts, this position primarily focuses on new business development targeting plumbers, municipalities, and contractors.

Product & Market

The client's equipment is known as the “Mercedes” of high-pressure sewer cleaning products, with a reputation for reliability and longevity. All equipment is mobile, available in trailer, truck, or van-mounted configurations. The typical sales cycle ranges from 1-3 months, longer for government contracts.

Territory & Travel

The role covers Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and potentially Michigan. The ideal candidate is based in Western Pennsylvania, but other locations within the region will be considered. Travel comprises 75-80% of the role and includes in-person meetings, demos, and relationship-building visits with prospective customers. A company vehicle (or allowance) and storage for demo equipment will be provided.

Responsibilities
  • Engage with existing customers, secure orders, and cultivate new customers by strategically planning and organizing a daily work schedule to connect with existing or potential sales and trade contacts.
  • Drive growth and development of direct and dealer sales channels through captivating equipment demonstrations.
  • Forge and nurture new partnerships with direct contractors and the municipal dealer network.
  • Stay ahead of the competition by gathering and analyzing current marketplace information on pricing, products, new innovations, delivery schedules, and merchandising techniques.
  • Address customer concerns and inquiries by investigating issues, developing solutions, preparing reports, and making insightful recommendations to management.
  • Enhance your professional and technical knowledge of the industry by attending trade shows, reviewing publications, and establishing a robust personal network.
  • Master the art of demonstrating and troubleshooting products.
  • Prepare and submit weekly reports of calls, meetings, and demonstrations.
Candidate Profile
  • 5+ years of capital equipment sales experience, ideally in municipal, plumbing, or industrial markets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage a territory, and build long-term relationships.
  • Experience working remotely and self-managing day-to-day planning and strategy.
  • Mechanical aptitude is a plus (ability to understand, demo, and troubleshoot equipment).
  • Comfortable with road warrior travel and committed to consistent CRM documentation.
Sales Expectations & KPIs
  • Maintain a high level of daily sales activity, including phone calls, emails, and new company/contact creation, meticulously logged in the CRM system.
  • In-person interactions per week, with at least half being demos, cold calls, or scheduled meetings.
  • Expected to generate quality quote opportunities weekly, log all activity in HubSpot, and follow up with quotes the same day.
  • Strong adherence to CRM use, pipeline reporting, and maintaining communication with the home office.
  • Weekly sales calls are used to review performance metrics and activity.
Qualifications
  • Positive, professional approach and demeanor.
  • Previous experience in sales and/or customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and achieve goals.
  • BA or Associate Degree preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in capital equipment sales, preferably in the plumbing, municipal water & sewer markets.
  • 2 years' experience demonstrating equipment preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Willingness to travel 50 to 75% within the Northeast US Region.
Benefits
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Dental, health, vision, and life insurance.
  • Company car, mileage, and travel reimbursement.
  • Paid time off and training.
