Job Title: Enterprise Architect – Azure Cloud
Location: Richmond, VA 23219 "Remote"]
Client: The Virginia Department of Elections.

NOTE: This is a 100% Remote position.

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure to join our software development team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the architecture of a new platform, working collaboratively across Application Development, Service Delivery, and Infrastructure teams. This position demands a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to designing and implementing cloud-native solutions that meet enterprise standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-grade cloud solutions on Microsoft Azure.
  • Define and maintain enterprise architecture standards, best practices, and governance for Azure-based platforms.
  • Collaborate with Development, Infrastructure, and Service Delivery teams to ensure secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud implementations.
  • Conduct architectural reviews and design sessions to align technology solutions with business objectives.
  • Create detailed documentation and present design solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Spearhead the evaluation and implementation of new cloud technologies and tools.
  • Manage enterprise-wide cloud strategy and roadmap discussions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Support the development and automation of CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Mentor cross-functional teams on Azure cloud patterns and infrastructure-as-code practices.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • 5–8 years of experience designing and implementing enterprise-grade solutions on Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture, hybrid cloud strategies, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
  • Deep technical expertise in Azure services: Compute, Networking, Storage, Databases, and Identity.
  • Proficient in Azure Resource Manager (ARM), Azure Policy, Azure Monitor, and Microsoft Defender for Cloud (formerly Azure Security Center).
  • Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance and other Azure database services.
  • Familiarity with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), containerization (Docker, Helm), and microservices design.
  • Proven ability to lead cloud strategy and technical roadmap discussions with enterprise stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of cloud governance, cost management, and security best practices.
  • Strong experience in CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Skilled in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Bicep, and Terraform.
  • Strong knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture, RBAC, Azure Active Directory, and compliance standards such as ISO, SOC 2, NIST.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams including developers, infrastructure, security, and business stakeholders.
Preferred Certifications:
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert
  • Additional Azure or security certifications are a plus.
