Overview
Vanigent is currently seeking a Vice President of Business Development to lead strategic growth initiatives and partnerships across the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. This is a senior executive role, reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Executive Leadership Team.
The VP, Business Development will play a critical leadership role in identifying, developing, negotiating, and executing high-impact strategic partnerships that align with the organization’s long-term vision, innovative solutions, and commercial strategy. The role requires a unique blend of strategic thinking, relationship management, financial acumen, and deep industry insight within the biotech, pharmaceutical, diagnostics, contract sales and adjacent life sciences markets.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong track record of success in prospecting and closing new business opportunities, expanding existing accounts through innovative solutions and services, and consistently delivering on revenue and margin targets.
This position is remote with a preference for candidates located in the Eastern or Central Time Zone.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CEO and Executive Team to define and drive new strategic initiatives aligned with Vanigent’s growth, financial goals, and capabilities.
- Identify and proactively pursue high-value partnership opportunities (inbound and outbound) aligned with Vanigent’s commercial objectives, focusing on key therapeutic areas, specialty pharma, diagnostics, and contract sales.
- Build and present proactive business cases, including financial modeling, ROI analysis, and scenario planning, to support decision-making.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner, providing market intelligence and insights on trends, competitors, regulatory shifts, and whitespace opportunities.
- Develop and maintain a robust partner pipeline, qualifying leads and identifying high-potential opportunities.
- Cultivate and manage executive-level relationships with clients, partners, and key stakeholders and industry leaders in academia, biotech, VC, and healthcare sectors.
- Represent Vanigent as a brand ambassador at industry events, client meetings, and thought leadership forums.
- Prospect and secure new business while deepening existing relationships through consistent engagement, feedback collection, and strategic account growth planning.
- Present strategic partnership opportunities and updates to executive leadership and the board.
- Align BD initiatives with Vanigent’s portfolio strategy, integrating complementary or white-labeled offerings as appropriate.
- Lead or support development and delivery of compelling presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop scalable tools and implement processes to standardize the BD function, including templates, CRM workflows, rate cards, and approval frameworks.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g. legal, finance, operations) to shape client strategies and oversee contract development, negotiation and timely execution with full stakeholder alignment.
- Lead post-deal implementation plans and coordinate cross-functional execution with internal teams to ensure partner success and alignment.
- Maintain accurate records of sales activities and pipeline data.
- Maintain general knowledge of all Vanigent services to identify and leverage cross-sell opportunities.
- Foster a culture of integrity, innovation, and transparency in all partnership efforts.
- Mentor and grow internal BD talent; build a high-performance team as the function scales.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, MBA a plus or advanced scientific degree required.
- 10+ years relevant experience working within the pharma/biotech industries, including 7+ years of experience in business development.
- Proven track record at mid-level and high-level contacts.
- Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills.
- Proven track record of developing customer contacts at the outsourcing, procurement and mid-management level.
- Excellent Business/Industry awareness and a thorough understanding of industry trends and impact on the business.
- Excellent analytical skills in assessing and interpreting customer business data.
- Demonstrated record of accomplishment of sourcing, leading, and closing business development partnerships, with an emphasis on analytics, negotiations, structuring, and drafting of partnership contracts.
- Extensive experience in deal structure development, licensing partnership structuring, collaboration agreements negotiations, financial analysis, technical communication, and transaction process management.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed for execution of transaction or prospecting new opportunities.
