Overview


The Vice President of Strategic Engagement and Operations is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing the strategic initiatives and operational functions of the Medical Affairs department.  This role ensures alignment with corporate objectives, fosters collaboration across departments, and drives excellence in clinical, regulatory, and commercial activities to support the organization’s medical strategies and objectives.  The Vice President, Strategic Engagement and Operations is also responsible for representing the Medical Affairs team, both internally and externally, to support product launches and ongoing pipeline development.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute near- and long-term strategic plans for the Medical Affairs department that align with the company’s overall mission and goals.
  • Identify and prioritize key strategic initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and impact of Medical Affairs activities.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate medical and scientific insights into business strategy.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Strategic Engagement and Operations department, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in processes and workflows.
  • Create and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting dashboards to drive continuous learning and improvement in collaboration with the MALT and other leaders across the organization.

  • Lead a team responsible for strategic insights, planning, and operations.  Gather and synthesize insights from customer-facing team insights, and other available metrics.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and personnel to ensure optimal operational excellence.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team.
  • Ensure continuous training and development programs are in place to maintain high levels of expertise and compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including global patient advocacy groups, healthcare professionals, professional societies and regulatory bodies.

  • Support collaboration, planning, and execution of the Iovance Medical Affairs strategic plan through implementing an inclusive and comprehensive approach to meeting, decision-making, and resource allocation among the MALT.

  • Act as a key strategic thought partner for the MALT. Proactively highlight issues and opportunities for the business and lead the follow-up action planning.

  • Working with EVP of Medical Affairs, manage activities of the MALT, planning calendar, talent and culture development, and strategic events throughout the year

 Travel


The ability to travel both nationally and internationally will be required, with variable schedules. Approximately 25% travel.

 

Education and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in medical affairs within the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Master’s Degree required; Doctorate strongly preferred.
  • Experience in oncology required, experience with Cell Therapy preferred.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • A track record of building strong partnerships and cross-functional collaborations. Must exhibit inclusive peer leadership skills and an ability to influence without authority. Prior leadership experience is required.
  • Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution-oriented.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.
  • Skilled at clearly communicating insight, as well as the implications and recommendations distilled from the analysis.
  • Strong project management experience with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • New product launch experience required.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.

  • Must have visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer screen, and extensive reading.

  • Must be able to communicate with others to exchange information.
