TRU is representing an innovative AI startup, seeking to hire a Chief Privacy and Compliance Officer (CPCO) to lead the strategic direction and execution of its global privacy, compliance, and data governance initiatives. Our client is bleeding edge and wants its products to be privacy forward as the footprint of the company grows. Reporting to the CEO, the CPCO will focus on privacy-by-design principles, stay abreast of the global regulatory landscape, and act as a trusted advisor to both internal teams and external partners. This role is remote, but preference will be given to candidates in New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Chicago. Responsibilities:
Leads the development and execution of the global privacy strategy, including governance frameworks, data subject rights workflows, and regulatory alignment
Provides strategic guidance and operational leadership around global privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, PIPL, LGPD), including OneTrust implementation and assessments
Collaborates with executive leadership to ensure privacy is prioritized in product roadmaps and business strategy
Builds and oversees a privacy program to support internal policy, training, assessments (PIA/DPIA), and incident response programs
Acts as the primary point of contact for external regulators, customers, and partners on privacy matters, audits, and due diligence
Monitors privacy risk and ensures robust documentation, reporting, and mitigation strategies are in place
Supports ethical AI/data innovation by evaluating algorithmic impact, anonymization practices, and transparency requirements
Partners with compliance and security teams to ensure alignment and integration of risk-based controls
Qualifications:
Significant experience in global privacy and governance roles, ideally in AI, AdTech, SaaS, or high-growth tech in a native digital or internet company
Strong preference for candidates who have bult privacy from the ground up in an agile startup environment
Deep subject matter expertise in GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and emerging AI/data protection regulations
Demonstrated ability to develop privacy programs from the ground up and scale them across jurisdictions
Experience advising executive leadership, building cross-functional partnerships, and communicating risk effectively
Law degree or CIPP certifications strongly preferred
Experience with tools such as OneTrust, TrustArc, or in-house built consent/privacy systems is a plus
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Expected salary for this role is $240,000 - $275,000, commensurate with experience, training, skills, qualifications, and other market factors.
