Responsibilities
As Director, Strategic Communications, you will play a key role in the strategic planning and development of executive communications for senior leaders at Ascension. This includes internal communications from senior executives to employees (associates) across the organization, as well as messages targeted to specific audiences. Maintaining a curious mindset, you will gather and synthesize information from across the organization to develop messaging that advances strategic priorities. You will play an integral role in looking across the internal communications landscape to help audiences connect the dots among a variety of focus areas and initiatives. Please note this position is Remote with up to 20% travel.
Responsibilities
- Work cross collaboratively with members of the internal communications team and subject matter experts to research, develop and align strategic communications narratives across initiatives and channels.
- Plan, research and write internal communications for system senior executives.
- Create and maintain key messages for system executives.
- Develop strategic communication plans for systemwide initiatives.
- Spearhead content review and approval process for systemwide electronic newsletters; exercise good judgment and a strategic mindset in editorial planning for the newsletters.
- Contribute to development of systemwide content strategy and track implementation.
- Ensure that communications reflect the Mission, Vision and Values of Ascension as a healing ministry of the Catholic Church.
- Maintain flexible availability and responsiveness both during and outside of normal work hours as necessary.
Complexity Of Work:
- Requires excellent writing and project management skills, as well as critical thinking, a curious mindset, strategic counseling and decisive judgment.
- Ideally, the candidate will have understanding of the evolving healthcare market and experience communicating about healthcare-related topics.
- Must have the ability to think creatively, explore new approaches and maintain flexibility.
- Experience working within a large, complex organization is a plus.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
Education:
- High School diploma equivalency with 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 3 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management.
Additional Preferences
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or related field required; Master's degree preferred
- 10+ years in an internal communications leadership role, ideally with experience working in a healthcare provider system
- Proven experience developing executive communications, providing strategic counsel and developing and implementing strategic communications plans and key messaging for distribution across a variety of channels
- Ability to manage projects and plan multiple complex projects simultaneously, overseeing implementation of strategic communications plans
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with senior leaders and team members at all levels
- Demonstrated superior writing skills, with the agility to change tone and voice when developing messaging on behalf of different leaders and for varying audiences
- Adept at the rapid development of content in support of executive communication needs, including for crisis situations
