RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:
Partners with the Regional leadership team in implementing the strategic EHS initiatives that build and sustain the region’s culture of EHS excellence. Supports the Region’s EHS function, validates adherence to the requirements, goals, and directs improvement planning efforts. Serves as a contributor or leader of project teams to address specific program changes or issues that apply across the Central Region. Provides technical support on EHS matters to region.
Provides direction to site safety professionals (where present).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Provides direction on implementation of the Region’s EHS programs, processes, and strategic EHS initiatives.
Implements Regional communication strategy for leadership and supervision to maintain a high level of EHS awareness at the front line employee level.
Validates program and process implementation at the frontline, team leader and Regional leadership level. Reports and recommends action on findings to Regional leadership.
Lead the investigation of incidents (injuries or near misses) including the determination of root cause. Communicates with injured employee and team leader throughout the process. Notifies regional leadership when injuries occur and leads the Incident Review meeting.
Coaches leadership to take appropriate disciplinary action based on circumstances when employee unsafe behavior or leader disregard for their safety responsibilities is identified.
Reviews contract documentation for jobs meeting large project EHS criteria for relevant EHS issues that may affect the execution of the EHS program at the project/site level. Incorporates EHS requirements into site-specific programs.
Conducts training based on specific need such as non-routine hazard, customer-requirement, injury trend data, etc., for all levels of Region employees.
Tracks and communicates EHS performance metrics including the core EHS processes (i.e. audits, monthly training, etc.), and goals for Region; tracks and reports progress against safety goals.
Evaluates and analyzes incident trends at assigned Region. Works directly with those operations to establish root causes and associated preventative measures.
Conducts and documents the required audits and works with leadership team to develop, complete and track progress of improvement plan. Works with consultants where third party audits are required.
Presents and promotes Johnson Controls’ EHS program and performance data to external customers based on need as established by the customer, sales or operations.
Plays a role from a technical perspective in the completion of project work that supports the EHS team’s overall goals and direction.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in occupational or environmental safety or related equivalent with a minimum of 8 - 10 years' work experience in industrial, manufacturing and/or construction safety in a multiple facility environment.
Excellent verbal and written communicator with business acumen, strong analytical skills and the ability to influence and self-start.
Ability to travel 40-50%.
