Job description

Mapbox is the leading real-time location platform for a new generation of location-aware businesses. Mapbox is the only platform that equips organizations with the full set of tools to power the navigation of people, packages, and vehicles everywhere. More than 3.5 million registered developers have chosen Mapbox because of the platform’s flexibility, security and privacy compliance. Organizations use Mapbox applications, data, SDKs and APIs to create customized and immersive experiences that delight their customers.

What We Do

Data is the foundation of everything we do at Mapbox. Our  team Roads processes terabytes of geospatial data daily to construct a comprehensive global road network for navigation, guidance, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), on-demand logistics, and more. The accuracy, consistency, and reliability of our data directly impact millions of users worldwide.

What You'll Do

We are Looking for a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to lead and drive quality practices within the Roads team. This role is not just about testing, it's about establishing a strong QA culture, enforcing best practices, and ensuring the highest standards of data accuracy and reliability.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the QA processes within the Roads team, defining quality standards and best practices.

  • Take ownership of data quality—identify weak spots in our pipelines, push for improvements, and drive accountability for data correctness.

  • Design and implement testing strategies to validate massive geospatial datasets and ensure they meet customer needs.

  • Automate testing where possible to improve efficiency and reliability.

  • Establish release criteria for data updates, ensuring that every data release is accurate, complete, and free of defects.

  • Actively find and break things—identify defects, anomalies, and misbehaviors in our data processing pipelines.

  • Advocate for quality at all levels, embedding QA best practices into development workflows.

What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role
  • 5+ years of Quality Assurance experience, ideally within large-scale data processing or geospatial fields.

  • Ability to design and implement effective and robust test strategies in alignment with industry best practices.

  • Knowledge of modern testing methodologies, tools and approaches.

  • Strong analytical skills, able to multitask and meet tight deadlines.

  • Ability to plan and perform release testing to ensure software quality and stability before deployment.

  • Good knowledge of SQL for analyzing and validating data outputs.

  • Basic ability to write scripts for test automation and data validation, with experience in Python (or another scripting language).

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) for testing and monitoring data pipelines.

  • Excellent communication skills in English.

Nice to Have Traits for This Role
  • Knowledge of test automation frameworks.

  • Experience with Docker.
