Compensation: Base fee with performance-based upside tied to loan recovery success

Role Overview

IIX is seeking a highly experienced consultant to take immediate charge of loan recovery efforts for the Women’s Livelihood Bond™ (WLB) Series loan portfolios. This role is ideal for a seasoned credit recovery expert with a strong track record in loan restructuring, distressed asset management, and borrower negotiations within microfinance institutions (MFIs), financial institutions (FIs), or impact investment portfolios.

The consultant must have experience in regulatory frameworks governing credit recovery, debt restructuring, and financial risk management in India, Kenya, Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines. The role will require direct engagement with borrowers, financial institutions, and legal advisors, ensuring compliance with local regulations while implementing effective recovery strategies.

This position offers a competitive base consulting fee with a performance-based upside tied to successful loan recoveries.

Key Responsibilities
Loan Recovery & Restructuring
  • Assess and prioritize stressed loans, conducting financial due diligence to determine recovery strategies.
  • Develop and execute loan recovery plans, including:
    • Direct borrower negotiations for settlements and structured repayment plans.
    • Loan restructuring to balance borrower repayment capacity with maximizing recoveries.
    • Coordinating with lenders and financial institutions to implement collaborative recovery solutions.
  • Engage with borrowers to identify and resolve repayment challenges.
  • Ensure adherence to loan agreements while taking a solution-oriented approach to recoveries.
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and debt recovery laws in India, Kenya, Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
  • Monitor regulatory risks related to loan restructuring, borrower negotiations, and asset recovery.
  • Coordinate with legal teams and financial regulators to ensure that all recovery actions align with local financial laws and ethical lending practices.
  • Stay updated on country-specific regulations governing loan settlements, insolvency, and debt restructuring.
  • Ensure full documentation and reporting compliance for loan recovery activities.

Performance Metrics (KPIs)
  • Loan Recovery Rate: Percentage of total stressed loans recovered within set timelines.
  • Restructured Loan Performance: Percentage of restructured loans successfully repaid.
  • Regulatory Compliance Rate: Adherence to financial recovery laws and best practices.
  • Negotiation Success Rate: Effectiveness in securing settlements without formal legal action.
  • Non-Performing Loan (NPL) Reduction: Measurable decrease in portfolio risk and loan defaults.

Consultant Profile & Qualifications

15+ years of experience in credit recovery, loan restructuring, and distressed asset management within MFIs, FIs, development finance institutions, or impact investing portfolios.

Strong understanding of financial regulations related to loan recovery and restructuring in India, Kenya,Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines.

Proven expertise in borrower negotiations, loan settlements, and structuring repayment solutions.

Experience working with MFIs, banks, and impact investment funds to manage distressed assets.

Proficiency in credit risk assessment, repayment modeling, and financial analysis.

Fluency in English; additional language skills in Hindi, Swahili, Bahasa Indonesia, Khmer, or Filipino are a plus.
