We are a U.S.-based construction company seeking a skilled and detail-oriented VDC Plumbing Designer to support our virtual design and construction (VDC) efforts. This is a remote, independent contractor role, where the ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and marking up plumbing and fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with U.S. plumbing codes and industry standards.
Plumbing System Design: Develop detailed water supply, drainage, venting, stormwater, and gas piping system layouts, schematics, and mark-ups.
BIM Coordination: Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam to create accurate 2D and 3D plumbing models, working closely with other trades to identify and resolve conflicts before construction.
Pre-Construction Support: Work with U.S.-based project teams to provide constructability reviews and plumbing design expertise.
Plan Review & Quality Control: Analyze plumbing plans, perform quality checks, and recommend improvements for compliance and efficiency.
Pipe Sizing & Load Calculations: Perform calculations for water supply, drainage loads, and pressure drops, ensuring proper pipe sizing and fixture counts.
Code Compliance: Ensure plumbing designs adhere to International Plumbing Code (IPC), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), NFPA, and other U.S. standards.
Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical reports, submittals, and drawings for review and approval.
Technical Collaboration: Work with project managers, field engineers, and construction teams to provide ongoing design support.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience in VDC plumbing design, preferably for U.S. construction projects.
Software Proficiency: Expertise in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or similar plumbing design tools.
Code Knowledge: Strong understanding of IPC, UPC, NFPA, and other U.S. plumbing standards.
Communication Skills: Proficiency in English, with the ability to collaborate with U.S.-based teams.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot design challenges and propose solutions.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in drawings, calculations, and documentation.
Remote Work Readiness: Reliable internet connection and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
Experience with BIM modeling and clash detection software.
Familiarity with construction project management workflows.
