Since 2019, and thanks to the support from the European Commission, OpenNebula Systems has been leading the edge computing innovation in Europe, investing heavily in research and open source development, and playing a key role in strategic EU initiatives such as the IPCEI-CIS and the “European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud”.

We are currently looking for a dedicated UI/UX designer to come and join us in Europe as part of our new team developing the next generation Cloud Management Platform  for the Cloud-Edge Computing Continuum.

Job Description

We are seeking an UI/UX designer with great design skills and an understanding of the enterprise private and hybrid cloud industry to help our company become a market leader and grow. The new designer will work together with the Product Officer and Development Team to create a new user experience for our community and customers, with new integrations and functionality in the pipeline. They will engage with users, obtain user feedback and align with Product to develop a strategy and new end-user interface for the OpenNebula product. To excel in this role, they need to be a motivated self-starter, who exhibits an insatiable curiosity about what “is possible” with technology, loves solving challenging problems and working directly with customers.


Responsibilities

  • Developing a thorough understanding of user and internal stakeholder needs, as well as a strong understanding of product specifications, cloud market design and user psychology
  • Undertaking research activities to understand user needs, behaviors, and demographics
  • Gathering and evaluating user requirements by conducting interviews and surveys to understand their needs, in collaboration with the Product, Development and Customer Success Teams
  • Utilizing research insights to inform design decisions, ensuring they meet real user requirements
  • Implementing various user testing methods, such as A/B testing, usability testing
  • Aligning design objectives with product management goals to meet business requirements
  • Mapping out the entire journey a user takes while interacting with the product
  • Developing a strategy that defines the overall feel and experience of the product, resulting in a design system/kit
  • Planning and implementing new UI/UX designs in response to market and competitors’ behavior, ensuring a competitive edge
  • Developing user-friendly and visually appealing designs as well as optimising existing user interface designs
  • Creating original graphic designs and designing new graphic user interface elements
  • Illustrating design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps
  • Developing UI mockups and prototypes that illustrate the experience and functionality, while testing for intuitivity
  • Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders, adjusting designs based on user feedback
  • Identifying, troubleshooting and resolving UX issues, such as responsiveness and usability challenges
  • Provide guidance on the implementation of UX research techniques and testing activities to assess user behavior, and ensuring all user input is validated for the Development Team
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs with the Development Team, optimizing for maximum speed and scalability where possible

What you will bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Computer Science or a relevant field is recommended
  • Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer, with a portfolio of design projects that includes building end user interfaces
  • Up-to-date knowledge of design software and wireframe tools (e.g. Figma)
  • Detail oriented and a critical thinker, able to develop strategic designs
  • Great problem solving skills and a customer-centered perspective
  • Good interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
  • Some knowledge of Usability Factors in Human Computer Interaction
