We’re looking for our next Enterprise Solutions Architect. Could It Be You?

The Enterprise Solutions Architect (Data) role is a leader, experienced with the delivery of significant business value through the application of quality architectures. This role will be working with several teams in the organization in a collaborative manner, helping design solutions that propel capabilities that enable the business to be successful. This leader will contribute extensively to the delivery of the data strategy which is a core value proposition of Questrade’s enterprise architecture, driving the development of innovative solutions which span multiple product lines.

• Be a forward-thinking technologist who is continuously researching new approaches to problems and discussing them with others in a productive manner, in a community of practice setting.
• Be a hands-on experienced team member who can occasionally join agile teams along with engineers and take backlog stories in sprints, and coach others through their challenges.
• Engage in discussions with Scrum teams around solution designs (new / changed), helping influence the direction based on the architecture strategy agreed with the technical leadership team. Help these teams with the selection of new technologies, estimating work and planning delivery.
• Design and implement effective database solutions and models to store, retrieve and manage Questrade’s data.
• Define standards, guidelines and best practices around data creation, usage and lifecycle at Questrade, both in business and technology domains.
• Define a strategy for data flows to meet the requirements of applications that will be producing and consuming data on different hosting locations (cloud vs on-prem, for example).
• Define appropriate patterns and strategies for data integration, especially involving legacy stack applications, such as using Change Data Capture (CDC).
• Define and oversee a governance process for data lifecycle, including events data.
• Assess database related solutions and procedures to ensure they comply with internal and external (regulatory) control objectives, such as security, privacy and compliance.
• Oversee the migration of data from legacy systems to new solutions.
• Recommend solutions to improve new and existing database systems.
• Educate staff members through training and individual support.
• Ability to translate design discussions into documented and diagrammed solutions that are both useful and maintainable.
• Assist with the technical screening of new team members joining engineering / architecture teams.
• Assist in defining target architectures across the organization’s technology landscape. Propose viable transitional architectures to help engineering teams reach the target architecture within reasonable iterative releases. Assist in preparing architectural roadmaps.
  
  
  

So are YOU our next Enterprise Solutions Architect? You are, if you have…

• 3+ years of experience working as a Data and/or Integration Architect, 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• BS or Master’s degree in related fields or combination of education and experience in an IT related discipline (Computer Science, Information Systems, and Systems Engineering). Proven experience architecting solutions for the cloud, bonus points for Google Cloud experience.
• Preferred toolset / tech stack landscape:
• RDBMS: primarily MS SQL Server and MySQL
• Google Cloud analytics / data warehousing tool sets
• Event and message broker expertise: RabbitMQ, Kafka, Google Pub/Sub or similar
• Caching: Redis or similar
• BI, Data Warehouse, integration: Microsoft SSIS, Power BI
• Digital financial services experience preferred.
• Demonstrated interest in new technologies and new architectural patterns, such as occasionally joining appropriate meetups / workshops, reading quality articles, etc.
• Decisive personality: someone who doesn’t accept “analysis paralysis”, strongly focused on outcome.
• Experience using Agile, Scrum and iterative development practices.
• Exposure to the full software development life cycle, including design, configuration, integration, testing and support including, but not limited to, gathering requirements, designing the future state solution, the development work breakdown, as well as supporting quality assurance and post-production efforts.
• Have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills and the ability to interact with all levels of stakeholders.
