As the Production Editor – Bespoke Publishing, you will play a key role in managing the editorial production of custom publishing projects across multiple imprints. You will track projects from turnover to publication, oversee scheduling and editorial workflows, and ensure high-quality book production in alignment with bespoke publishing standards. This role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, deep collaboration, and agility, working closely with editorial, production, and creative teams to maintain an efficient publishing process. Due to the aggressive schedules required to meet bespoke authors' deadlines, this role may require extended hours to maintain production timelines.
This position can be hybrid in Naperville, IL or NYC, or fully remote in the following states ONLY: AZ, CT, LA, MA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, AND WI.
This is a exempt, salaried postion with an annual salary between $55,000 - $65,000 with the final offer dependent on experience and qualifications.
Production Editor Key Responsibilities:
Project & Production Management: Manage assigned projects through all production stages, ensuring high-quality execution and timely delivery. Communicate updates, track progress, and mitigate scheduling risks.
Workflow & Process Management: Take ownership of production workflows, establishing best practices and optimizing efficiency for bespoke publishing projects.
Editorial Quality Control: Oversee the quality assurance of all title-related material, confirming formatting and styling consistency, checking proof stages, and ensuring books meet Sourcebooks' editorial standards.
Collaboration & Communication: Be deeply collaborative, working cross-functionally with editorial, production, design, manufacturing, and marketing teams to align schedules and priorities.
Data-Driven Decision-Making: Check the + for data, leveraging insights to refine editorial and production workflows.
Copyediting & Proofreading Support: Assist with copyediting and proofreading as needed, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project expectations.
What You Bring
3+ years of experience in editorial production, managing editorial, or publishing project coordination.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
Strong understanding of The Chicago Manual of Style and book production conventions.
Developing knowledge of quality control for both printed and digital materials.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and project management tools such as Smartsheet, Basecamp, or similar platforms.
Strong attention to detail and ability to be coachable and always learning.
Agility and adaptability in managing production workflows and problem-solving.
Experience working with freelance copy editors and proofreaders.
