As the Associate Managing Editor – Bespoke Publishing, you will play a key role in managing the editorial production of custom publishing projects across multiple imprints. You will establish and refine editorial workflows, track title progress from turnover to publication, and ensure schedules are met with a focus on author deadlines and high-quality output. This role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, agility, and deep collaboration with editorial, production, and creative teams to maintain an efficient and seamless publishing process. This position may require extended hours to meet aggressive deadlines for author-driven publishing schedules.
This position can be hybrid in Naperville, IL or NYC, or fully remote in the following states ONLY: AZ, CT, LA, MA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, AND WI.
This is a exempt, salaried postion with an annual salary between $60,000 - 70,000 with the final offer dependent on experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Workflow & Process Management: Establish and manage best practices for editorial workflows, ensuring flexibility and efficiency for bespoke publishing projects.
Title Management & Scheduling: Oversee a list of titles, tracking progress, and maintaining schedules to ensure timely completion.
Project Coordination: Work closely with editors, authors, production, and creative teams to set priorities and align production schedules.
Quality Control: Maintain editorial excellence by reviewing schedules, tracking key dates, and ensuring final files meet Sourcebooks’ high-quality standards.
Collaboration: Be deeply collaborative, working cross-functionally to balance workload and adapt to evolving publishing needs.
Data-Driven Decision-Making: Check the + for data, using insights to optimize editorial workflows and scheduling strategies.
Mentorship & Training: Support the professional development of junior production editors by sharing best practices and workflow strategies.
What You Bring
5+ years of experience in editorial production, managing editorial, or publishing project coordination.
Strong organizational and communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines with agility and adaptability.
Experience working with freelance copy editors and proofreaders, ensuring quality control.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style.
Experience with project management tools such as Smartsheet, Basecamp, or similar platforms.
Be coachable and always learning, embracing new trends in editorial and production workflows.
Passion for high-quality publishing and taking ownership of projects from start to finish.
