Job description

The Vimeo Platform empowers creators to make, share, and distribute amazing videos directly to viewers worldwide in the highest quality possible. The team consists of Upload, Player Backend, Delivery, and Infrastructure groups, each responsible for a key aspect of video processing. This team is also very hands-on with the underlying infrastructure, to ensure the Vimeo software stack remains scalable and efficient.

In this role, you will lead and expand the Infrastructure group within the Video Platform team. Your focus will be on modernizing our infrastructure and implementing unified deployment systems. Additionally, you will coach and mentor a team of engineers, fostering collaboration and innovation. You may also contribute to monitoring efforts and backend video system enhancements.

As a member of the broader Vimeo Platform team, you will have the opportunity to engage with external multimedia projects, open-source communities, and industry standards bodies. You will also have dedicated time to research and explore your own ideas in the networking and video domains. Furthermore, you will have opportunities to share your knowledge and insights through articles and blog posts about the technologies you develop.

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee Infrastructure team, specialized in scalable distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with other teams in all aspects of the software development lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain Quality of Experience metrics.
  • Mentor and coach engineers to help them reach their full potential.
  • Design and maintain efficient, reusable backend systems and Vimeo frameworks.
  • Collaborate with team leads to prepare project specifications and define the roadmap.

Skills and knowledge you should possess:

  • Scalable system deployment and design
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to write, interpret, and implement standards and specifications
  • Project management skills and agile concepts
  • Experience with a Cloud Platform, such as GCP or AWS
  • Team player, get-it-done attitude and quick learner

Bonus points (nice skills to have, but not needed): 

  • Passion and interest for video
  • Curiosity for arising technology such as AI and language models
  • Perspective and deep understanding of trends in the industry

Base Salary Range:

  • NYC Metro, Bay Area, Seattle, & Los Angeles: $184,000 - $251,500 
  • All other US cities outside above metro areas: $165,600 - $226,350
