Job description

Be essential at Cars Commerce

At Cars Commerce, we’re fanatical about simplifying everything about car buying and selling. We do right by our customers and consumers to better connect the industry with simplified and tierless technology to enhance, measure and drive local automotive retail. Whether through our No.1 most recognized marketplace, Cars.com, our industry-leading digital experience, Dealer Inspire, our trade and appraisal technology, AccuTrade, or our new Cars Commerce Media Network, Cars Commerce is essential for success in the automotive industry.

No one ever travels alone here: at its core, Cars Commerce is collaboration. In fact, it’s built into the very fabric of our shared values. We like to say we Rise Together – putting people at the center of what we do, from consumer to customer to community. Life at Cars Commerce makes it easy when we share the ethos to be Open to All, encouraging open-minded communication because we know diverse thinking yields better outcomes. But critical to our success is Caring to Challenge and Taking Ownership, fueling a competitive spirit in a respectful environment where we think about tomorrow but act today. At our foundation, we have integrity, Doing the Right Thing, even when it’s hard. It’s our shared commitment to these values that makes Cars Commerce a place where growth becomes not only possible, but downright unavoidable.

But don’t take our word for it. As a U.S. News & World Report Best Company to Work For in 2024, we're obsessive about the employee experience. We are among the top 20% being declared “Best” of our industry based on six critical factors that are important to employee wellbeing, like quality of pay, benefits, work life balance and more.

Background:

AccuTrade (a Cars Commerce solution), creates SaaS software that makes it easy for automotive consumers to get a guaranteed price when selling their used vehicle, and gives automotive dealers tools to understand the used vehicle market. We help dealers make the right decision when purchasing vehicles from consumers or other dealers, and give them clear insights into how to best monetize their inventory. Our products are used by thousands of consumers and dealers daily.

We use modern tools to improve our productivity and are always looking to include innovative new approaches to our process. We run on Angular, Django/DRF, IAC, Gitlab, Kubernetes and AWS. We've been remote since our inception and have a great culture built around online communication and empowering team members.

We’re building products with the capacity to fundamentally change the used car business, leading innovation in the vehicle acquisition and inventory management space. We’re looking for skilled, enthusiastic team members who want to be part of transforming an industry.

About The Role:

Are you a great engineering manager with lots of experience in cloud-based commercial software development?  We are looking for you!  We are building the next generation of our product platform, and need help creating the right product for our dealers in a way that will scale.

You would collaborate on new product development and maintenance specifically for our core appraisal product and analytics, which includes stakeholder collaboration, partner sourcing and management, API and architecture guidance, roadmap and sprint oversight and management, and providing updates to stakeholders on a regular basis. You would also manage development of the AccuTrade mobile application, all Auth/Auth features, and our external pricing API solution.

You should have exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills. You should have hands-on management experience, and a strong belief in developing the skills and talents of others. You care about what you do, and the people around you.  You would help guide your team to create new functionality in a timely manner, working with product management, marketing, support, and other teams, and you would need to share your progress with these teams through regular reporting and stakeholder meetings.

Requirements:

The right candidate would have:

  • Solid engineering management experience (2+ years) plus deep software development experience (5+ years), and an understanding of development workflows, agile best practices, and DevOps principles.
  • Ability to oversee / participate in architectural discussions to build scalable multi-tenant SAAS platforms covering back end, front end, and mobile technologies.
  • Experience working in a fully remote environment with an agile team, managing and iterating on processes to support your team’s effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Experience aligning your team’s work with both business and engineering objectives.
  • Experience working directly with development, QA, and product teams to manage expectations and deliver great software on time.
  • Experience hiring and managing teams, having regular 1:1 meetings, and providing coaching and mentoring to ensure team health and development at an individual and group level.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely to document processes, and create epics and stories including technical requirements from business requirements. Breaking complex work into incremental improvements that are releasable.
  • A clear product focus and the ability to ask the right questions to clarify requirements.
