Job description

Head of Logistics
Field-based, UK
Competitive Salary + Company Car + Private Medical Insurance + Bonus + Benefits

Marshalls plc is the UK’s leading hard landscaping, building and roofing products supplier, a Superbrand since 2010, and a successful FTSE 250 company! We’ve been shaping the UK’s landscape for over 130 years, supplying prestigious landmarks and creating better spaces. Every step we take and every product we make, is geared towards making the world around us a better place to live.

Our Logistics function is the engine room that powers our success! We're not simply moving products; we're delivering the UK’s leading landscaping, building and roofing materials that transform spaces – from the paving in your garden to the bricks that build major infrastructure.

We now have an exciting new opportunity for a Head of Logistics, partnering with Wincanton, who is our leading logistics provider to ensure a seamless delivery across our brands. This is a high-impact role with significant potential for the right candidate to develop and grow within Marshalls. If you're ready to lead and shape the future of logistics at an industry-leading company, this could be the opportunity for you!

What is the core mission?

You will orchestrate a complex network, driving innovation, championing safety, and exceeding customer expectations. You will play a pivotal role in managing our outsourced logistics contract with Wincanton, ensuring the smooth flow of goods across our three brands: Marshalls Landscape Products, Bricks & Masonry, and Marley. This involves rigorous contract review, close performance monitoring, and ensuring we receive exceptional service and value. You will be the primary point of contact for Wincanton, cultivating a strong, collaborative relationship while holding them accountable for delivering results.

Safety is paramount, and you will be a key advocate. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining robust processes that minimise risk and protect our employees, partners, and customers. This includes staying informed of evolving legislation and best practices and fostering a safety-first culture throughout our logistics network.

You will manage the logistics budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and maximising efficiency. This involves developing and monitoring budgets, identifying opportunities for cost savings, and providing regular financial reporting to senior leadership. You’ll also drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimise processes and enhance the overall performance of our logistics operation.

What are the mission-critical skills?

  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in a senior logistics leadership role within a medium/large, multi-site operation, ideally within the retail sector
  • Proven success managing large-scale (e.g., £50M+ spend) open book 3PL transport contracts across multiple sites. A strong understanding of transport-related KPIs and their impact on the P&L is essential
  • Experience in transport planning, either directly or through managing a team
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and manage complex change programmes
  • Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, enabling you to build trust, hold others accountable, and drive collaboration
  • A proactive and hands-on approach, combining strategic thinking with the ability to delve into detail and deliver change from the ground up
  • A track record of working effectively both autonomously and as part of a cross-functional team
  • High integrity, empathy, strong emotional intelligence, and excellent communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
  • Transport CPC
