Job description

Who's Just Right Reader

Just Right Reader is a rapidly growing phonics curriculum company dedicated to getting books aligned with the Science of Reading into as many students' hands as possible. We focus on scaling our business with innovative products that surpass the caliber of our competitors. Join us in our mission to revolutionize literacy education and make a significant impact on students' learning experiences.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a dynamic and driven Regional Vice President of Sales to lead and expand our sales efforts in the Texas region. This critical role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of our company. We are looking for a builder, comfortable with the ambiguity and fast pace of a startup environment. This hands-on leader will not only provide strategic direction but also be willing to jump in and sell alongside the team. A key aspect of this role will involve refining and scaling our sales strategies, developing a robust sales playbook, and defining key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive consistent growth. If you are passionate about education, have a proven track record in sales leadership, and thrive in an evolving environment, we encourage you to apply.

What You'll Do At Just Right Reader

  • Sales Strategy & Playbook Development: Collaborate with leadership to enhance existing sales strategies and develop a comprehensive regional sales playbook. This includes documenting best practices, refining sales processes, and identifying key differentiators to effectively scale our efforts.
  • Metrics, Quotas, and KPIs: Define and implement KPIs, sales quotas, and other metrics that will drive the success of the regional sales team. Ensure that progress is tracked, measured, and reported effectively. Refine processes for sales forecasting and pipeline management.
  • Team Building: Lead the hiring, interviewing, and onboarding process to build high-performing inside and outside sales teams within the region.
  • Team Leadership & Management: Manage and mentor the inside and outside sales teams, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture. This includes performance management and ongoing coaching.
  • Partnership Development: Collaborate with Directors of Partnerships to build and nurture relationships with key decision-makers in school districts and educational organizations within the region. Leverage existing networks and develop new strategic partnerships.
  • Sales Execution: Implement and execute regional sales strategies to achieve and exceed revenue targets, including territory planning, lead generation, and identifying new business opportunities.
  • Sales Training & Support: Provide ongoing training and support on product knowledge, sales processes, closing techniques, and customer partnership management. Use the sales playbook to ensure consistent messaging and best practices. Conduct regular ride-alongs to provide real-time coaching.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Present clear and concise reports to senior leadership, providing updates on regional sales performance, progress toward goals, and KPIs. Analyze sales data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Risk Mitigation & Renewals: Collaborate with VP of Custom Success to develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks related to repeat business and contract renewals. Identify potential challenges and develop proactive solutions to ensure customer retention.
  • Direct Sales: Actively engage in direct sales activities, especially in new or developing territories where a dedicated sales representative has not yet been established. This includes prospecting, conducting demos, negotiating contracts, and closing deals
  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and partners. Serve as a point of escalation for customer issues and ensure customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record in sales leadership and success within the education technology or related industry.
  • Established relationships and networks within school districts are essential. Experience as a former Superintendent, Principal, or school district administrator with a sales background is highly desirable.
  • Experience in a startup environment is a significant advantage.
  • Strong understanding of the K-8 education market and the challenges schools face today.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Data-driven and analytical, with the ability to leverage sales data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50-60% (with higher travel requirements in the initial stages of building the region). Must live in Texas. Ideal candidate will live within an hour drive of a regional airport.
  • Experience in building and managing sales teams, including interviewing and hiring.
