Key Purpose: Responsible for overseeing development of innovative & competitive formulas, ensuring the end product matches the initial vision.
Ideation & Product Roadmap
• Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to fuel our 3-year NPD calendar
• Participate in the Ideation group, helping to develop and refine product concepts and complete product briefs
• Identify opportunities for product innovation, portfolio whitespace, and product improvements
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with contract manufacturers to discover concepts and competitive product ideas
New Product Development (NPD)
• Manage the development of new formulas, coordinating cross functionally to assess and ensure the vision for the product is achieved
• Work hand in hand with Manager, Launch Success to support on-time execution of critical path milestones related to formulation development
• Monitor, track and assist in evaluation of new products and reformulations lab samples, submitting and managing redirects
• Partner with Brand Marketing to develop product positioning and messaging
• Oversee testing processes for products, including consumer, clinical, safety-in-use, and B&A testing
• Support cross-functional collaboration on claims development, clinical protocols, and testing plans
• Collaborate with the Packaging team to ensure product functionality, aesthetics, and alignment with brand standards
• Monitor formula development costs and product margins to ensure financial goals are met, troubleshooting where needed
Industry Intelligence
• Stay informed about skincare trends, consumer insights, and emerging technologies
• Research competitive products and market trends to inform development strategies
• Attend industry events, trade shows, and supplier meetings to stay abreast of current trends and technologies, as needed/ where applicable.
Leadership & Strategy
• Serve as a key contributor in the Product Development team, fostering collaboration and innovation
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot challenges and remove roadblocks
• Drive continuous improvement in product development processes and tools
The Details:
Qualifications
• 5+ years of product development experience in skincare and personal care
• Extensive experience in sensory evaluation and aesthetic expertise
• Working knowledge of cosmetic packaging & retail environment a plus
• Passion for beauty consumers, innovation, and industry trends
• Knowledge of and experience with 3rd party clinical and consumer testing
• Understanding of market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive analysis
• Ability to identify gaps in the market and innovate new products
• Experience working with marketing teams to develop claims, packaging, and positioning
• Commitment to leadership, coaching, and talent development with 3+ years of experience in people management
• Proven ability to drive innovation strategies and successful product launches
• Strong organizational, project management, and process development skills
• Effective cross-functional collaboration and supplier relationship management
• Agile and adaptable in managing timelines and fast-track developments
• Ability to multi-task and execute in a fast-paced environment
• Strong problem-solving skills, anticipating challenges and finding solutions
• Clear and effective communication with all levels of the organization
• Ability to work independently while keeping leadership informed of key developments
• Bachelor’s degree required – focus in science, business, marketing is a plus – or equivalent work experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Approximate Salary Range Based on Experience and Location:
$110,000 - $130,000 USD/annually

Paula’s Choice Skincare determines the pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external and internal equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.
For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. The exact base salary is determined by various factors including experience, skills, education, geographic location, and budget. This position is also eligible for participation in the company discretionary bonus plan.
