Job description

Lead Trauma Registrar
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM EST
Position Summary

The Lead Trauma Registrar is responsible for overseeing the Trauma Services Clinical Database (Trauma Registry). This includes data collection, analysis, entry, completion, and validation for all patients meeting inclusion criteria. The incumbent ensures accurate and timely submission of Trauma Center data to:

  • American College of Surgeons (NTDB/TQIP)
  • Virginia Department of Health (Image Trend Registry)
  • HCA-EWTDC Trauma Registry
  • Internal Chippenham Hospital departments

The Lead Trauma Registrar establishes processes for data concurrency and validation, ensuring that records are both current and accurate. Additionally, this role involves training and guiding the Trauma Registrar to enhance individual and team performance.

The position requires compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, and guidelines governing the Trauma Registry. This role reports directly to the Trauma Program Director.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the Trauma Registry database
  • Ensure accurate and timely data collection, validation, and submission
  • Monitor, motivate, and assist in training Trauma Registrars
  • Maintain compliance with all trauma-related regulations and standards
  • Generate reports and ensure data integrity for trauma center designation
Required Qualifications
Licensure/Certification
  • Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) within two (2) years of employment
  • Preferred: Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialist (CAISS)
Education
  • Required: High School diploma
  • Preferred: Associate degree in a health-related field or equivalent work experience (minimum of 2 years)
  • Highly Preferred:
    • American Trauma Society's Trauma Registrar Course
    • Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine's Abbreviated Injury Scaling Course
  • Essential: Medical terminology proficiency
Experience
  • Required: Previous experience in Trauma Registry
  • Preferred: Experience in trauma base registry
  • Highly Recommended:
    • AIS 2015 / ICD-10 trauma coding experience
    • Report writing experience
  • Essential: Proficiency in computers, data management, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
