About the Job

The Lead of State Government Relations (Director-level) is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing state government relations strategies and activities that advance Sanofi’s interests and priorities in an assigned region made up of states in the Pacific Northwest region
including Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and possibly other states. This position will be based either in Washington or Oregon.

The position includes representing Sanofi, a diversified innovation driven pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and vaccines company before state governments and state administrative/regulatory agencies as well as building diverse professional partnerships and contacts within the region. The individual is accountable for identifying business risks and developing proactive, defensive and responsive strategies to address legislative, regulatory and public policy initiatives that impact Sanofi’s business, and/or goals and objectives pertaining to Sanofi’s presence in state environments.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and identify emerging issues and opportunities in the political healthcare environment to implement a responsive state strategy and legislation as appropriate in the region assigned.

  • Analyzes, engages and monitors state legislation, regulations and political activities relating to issues that may impact Sanofi.

  • Educate policymakers about Sanofi and advocate for legislative solutions focused on patient affordability and access.

  • Regularly communicates analyses and updates internal stakeholders and external partners on state political environment and legislative activity to management. Allies with a wide array of organizations to advance common state legislative and regulatory objectives.

  • Fully integrates into assigned Sanofi internal business units, regional teams, management and external affairs groups to provide insights, strategy and tactics within the state sector that will advance Sanofi reputational and business objectives.

  • Demonstrates the highest of ethical values, curiosity and an ability to innovate and stretch on a consistent basis.

About You

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.

  • Prefer candidates local to WA or OR.

  • 7 - 10 years current and relevant experience in state government relations, lobbying, and/or political advocacy.

  • Public policy experience and/or legislative or executive staffing experience is highly desirable.

  • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders including trade associations, large coalitions, and the ability to proactively drive consensus.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare and pharmaceutical sector.

  • Quick analytical thinker, able to effectively monitor, synthesize, translate, and summarize complex policy, legislative, and political topics for use by internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Track record in roles with significant discretion and independent decision-making responsibilities.

  • Strong project management skills and ability to work on concurrent projects with limited oversight.

  • Exceptional attention to detail.

  • Team player with clear demonstration of ability to work in a dynamic, team-based, deadline-oriented environment.

  • Travel will be required to assigned states, conferences and internal meetings - up to 50%.

The salary range for this position is $172,500.00 - $230,000.00 USD Annually. All compensation will be determined commensurate with demonstrated experience.
