Public speaking experience with small and large audiences
Experiences using a Customer Relationship Management system, particularly Salesforce
Second language proficiency

Job Description:

The Office of Admissions fulfills Iowa State University’s land grant mission by attracting, recruiting, orienting, and enrolling various group of new undergraduate students to meet the university’s enrollment targets. The Office of Admissions at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for the Student Recruiter III International role.

The Student Recruiter III is involved in strategic planning for recruitment activities in an assigned territory and the broader strategic planning of recruitment across all territories and will frequently travel to other countries to engage in student recruitment activities.

The Student Recruiter's purpose is to attract, recruit and enroll prospective international students to the university through a variety of methods, including:

  • Engaging in recruitment of students through participation in education fairs, high schools and community colleges visits, yield events, and recruitment partner visits and events.
  • Assist in managing recruitment partner network.
  • Planning and supporting brand building activities abroad,
  • Planning and supporting familiarization (FAM) visit programs for recruitment partners
  • Participating in recruitment focused conferences, 
  • Managing recruitment correspondence via email and messaging apps,
  • Support sponsored student programs, international marketing, and other programs and recruitment initiatives and coordinating and assisting with on- and off-campus recruitment programs.

The Student Recruiter III communicates daily with prospective students and families and will manage events designed to develop relationships with high school and recruitment partners. This position will also support the broader mission of the Office of Admissions by assisting with general recruitment, including, but not limited to, campus visit days, and events hosted by New Student Programs, such as Orientation and Destination Iowa State activities.

  • Willing to travel frequently, and have the ability to work early mornings, late evenings, weekend hours, and extended hours as necessary throughout the year.


Example of Duties
• Recruits prospective students from high schools and community colleges.
• Plans events, including student open houses, visits, tours, and off-site receptions.
• Travels and gives presentations about the university to student groups.
• Participates in the selection process, including review and evaluation of candidates.
• Counsels students and parents regarding the admissions process.
• Serves as school ambassador to outside groups.

Level Guidelines
• Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals
• Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude
• Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action
• Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices
• Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff
• May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)
• May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist
• Provides guidance to students
