Title/Level Commensurate with Experience 

Reports to: Vice President, Finance
Location: Remote with Travel as Needed (this position is not required to commute into a physical office), however strong preference will be given to candidates who are located in the greater DC, Maryland, Virginia metropolitan area - DMV)

As the company continues to grow through acquisitions and organic expansion, we are seeking a seasoned Controller to oversee financial reporting, consolidation, and the financial operations of our parent company and subsidiaries. 

Position Summary 

The Controller is a key member of the finance leadership team, responsible for managing and consolidating the financial operations of the parent company and its diverse portfolio of subsidiaries. This role will ensure compliance with accounting standards, enhance financial reporting systems, and provide insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making in a complex, fast-paced environment. 

The Controller will lead a team of accounting professionals and work closely with senior leadership, including the VP, Finance, and other cross-functional stakeholders, to ensure financial stability and operational excellence. 

Key Responsibilities 

  1. Financial Management & Consolidation
    • Oversee and manage the financial reporting process for the parent company and all subsidiaries, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidations.
    • Develop and maintain robust accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across all entities to ensure compliance with GAAP and other applicable regulations.
    • Ensure proper intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and eliminations for consolidated financial statements.
  2. Accounting Operations
    • Direct all general accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets across the parent company and subsidiaries.
    • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes for all entities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
    • Manage external audits and tax compliance in coordination with external advisors and the VP, Finance.
  3. Financial Planning & Analysis Support
    • Provide detailed financial analysis and reporting to support strategic decision-making by senior leadership.
    • Collaborate with FP&A to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis across all subsidiaries.
  1. Team Leadership & Development
    • Build and lead a high-performing accounting team, including hiring, training, and mentoring staff to support career growth and development.
    • Establish a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the accounting function.
  2. Systems & Process Improvement
    • Evaluate and improve financial systems and processes to drive efficiency, scalability, and integration of newly acquired subsidiaries.
    • Implement and maintain ERP systems or other accounting software to enhance reporting capabilities and streamline operations.
  3. Acquisition Integration
    • Support the finance team in the integration of newly acquired subsidiaries, including accounting system migration, policy standardization, and consolidation into financial reporting.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation required.
    • MBA or equivalent advanced degree is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a multi-entity, multi-subsidiary organization.
    • Proven experience in financial consolidation and reporting for a parent company with diverse subsidiaries in a $100M+ business environment.
    • Experience working in a private equity-backed or acquisitive organization is strongly preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Expertise in accounting systems and ERP platforms; experience implementing or upgrading systems is a strong advantage.
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling; familiarity with business intelligence tools is a plus.
  • Leadership & Soft Skills:
    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop talent.
    • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and present financial insights to non-finance stakeholders.
    • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
