About The Position

An Application Engineer Internship at University of Phoenix provides an opportunity for enthusiastic students to supplement their formal education with hands-on experience in an area related to Engineering or Cybersecurity. Interns learn and are exposed to real-world application of practical knowledge in actual business situations and contribute to business results through completion of assigned responsibilities, project participation and collaboration with colleagues within their own department and throughout the University.

In addition, Interns have the opportunity to network with others already working in their chosen profession and to build relationships that can help them through the internship and into the future. Actual duties and responsibilities during the internship will vary based on the program discipline.

What You’ll Do

  • Engage with various teams within the specific department related to the internship, as well as throughout the University, to gain exposure and hands-on experience in their field of study; actively participate in a wide range of opportunities to apply practical knowledge to current business situations.
  • Collect, analyze, and present findings in related areas using opportunities to apply practical knowledge and gain exposure to working with various levels of colleagues throughout the University.
  • Participate in work groups to broaden knowledge and enhance skills
  • Perform research and provide actionable recommendations in work-related areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate, share, and expand knowledge with team members in the Information Technology/Application Engineering space.
  • Utilize programming technologies and coding skills.
  • Join a product team, attend all ceremonies and be responsible, with the support of a mentor, to complete stories in an Agile framework environment.
  • Create a final presentation as a capstone to showcase skills learned during product team experience.

Cybersecurity

Assist in monitoring and analyzing security threats and vulnerabilities.

Participate in the development and implementation of security policies and procedures.

Assist in conducting security assessments and audits.

Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to respond to security incidents.

Engineering

Work on engineering projects related to network infrastructure, hardware, and software systems.

Assist in troubleshooting technical issues and providing solutions.

Collaborate with the engineering team to design and implement innovative solutions.

Participate in the testing and evaluation of new technologies and tools.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Currently pursuing a degree in a field related to focus of internship: Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Information Technology, or Information Systems.
  • Able to commit to the internship position for a minimum of 3 months (May 19, 2025 - August 15, 2025), with a possibility of an extension.
  • Able to commit to 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) in a virtual environment free from distraction.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Exposure to foundational coding language such as Java, JavaScript, React, etc.
  • Ability to use critical thinking, coding language and analytical skills in a business environment
  • Prior related experience in a field related to focus of internship
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office
  • Familiarity with other software and online applications (will vary by internship discipline)
  • Prior computer programming skills is a plus.
