Description:

  • Full-Time Position
  • Reporting to: Pharmacist and Director of Pharmacy
  • Role Overview: The Certified Pharmacy Technician supports pharmacists by preparing and distributing medications, managing drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. This role requires specialized training in handling controlled substances, IV admixtures, and cytotoxic drugs, all performed under a pharmacist's supervision, with a focus on improving patient satisfaction, reducing costs, and enhancing care quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Medication Preparation and Distribution: Assist in preparing and distributing medications throughout the hospital.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain drug inventory and ensure accurate charging and record-keeping for patients.
  • Specialized Tasks: Handle controlled substances, prepare IV admixtures, and manage cytotoxic drug preparations with advanced training.
  • Supervision: Perform all tasks under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, ensuring compliance with legal and safety standards.
  • Quality Improvement: Contribute to efforts to enhance patient satisfaction, reduce costs, and improve the quality of care.

Required Education and Certifications:

  • Licensure/Certification:
    • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (Pharmacy students actively enrolled in an accredited pharmacy school are exempt).
    • Registration with the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Board of Pharmacy.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to pass a math/pharmaceutical calculation test.
    • Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff to meet departmental objectives.
    • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.

Preferred:

  • One year of IV admixture and chemotherapy experience
  • Hospital experience preferred

Pay Range: $20.07- $28.99

Pay is based on experience, skills and education.  Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
