Job description

As Head of Strategic Risk Management, you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for helping Guardian achieve its strategic objectives through the optimization and management of enterprise risks.  In this role, you will lead a small team responsible for managing high profile risk mitigation projects, including coordinating efforts across departments to define problem statements, identify root causes, design mitigation strategies, and oversee implementation of solutions.  Given the increased complexity and interconnectivity of risks within insurance companies, this role will be critical to “connecting the dots” across functional areas and bringing together cross-functional solutions. As a senior leader on the Risk team, you will drive risk management strategies through partnerships with leaders across the company.

You will
  • Partner with the CRO to prioritize Top Risks for the company and develop risk remediation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Guardian Leadership Team to ensure the risk management prioritization supports the company’s overall strategy and risk appetite.
  • Lead the development of contingency plans for critical risk areas and ensure effective risk transfer strategies are in place where appropriate.  Pull together subject matter experts to ensure the plans have buy-in from stakeholders across the company.
  • Identify and assess emerging risks and develop clear, comprehensive reporting for the CRO for Corporate Risk Management Committee and the Board as needed.
  • Foster a culture of risk awareness and risk-based decision-making throughout the organization.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of risk professionals, providing guidance and ensuring continuous professional development.
  • Work well under pressure and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Build commitment to achieve goals and deliverables.
You are
  • A trusted partner who is able to build strong business relationships across a wide range of stakeholders and customers
  • A strategic thinker, with the ability to “connect the dots” across the organization
  • A self-motivated person, able to work independently
  • Someone who is results-oriented and able to execute efficiently on tasks
You have
  • 10+ years of experience in managing large scale projects for financial institutions, preferably within the life insurance industry.
  • Deep knowledge of business resiliency planning and risk management methodologies and models.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive attitude that brings energy to others.
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness in managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to take complex issues and simplify for execution.

Salary Range
$151,950.00 - $249,630.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
