The Medical Science Liaison is a field-based scientific and clinical expert that strategically supports the medical and scientific objectives of Alnylam’s investigational programs. They will be accountable for communicating the science and clinical application of RNAi to Healthcare Practitioners (HCPs). In addition, MSLs are expected to build strong cross-functional relationships with colleagues in Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, R&D, Patient Advocacy, and Commercial Operations while maintaining full compliance with all relevant company, industry, legal, and regulatory requirements.

Summary Of Key Responsibilities
- Subject matter expert in the field of ATTR Polyneuropathy and Cardiomyopathy
- Keep up to date on scientific and clinical developments in the therapeutic areas in which Alnylam operates.
- Establish and maintain relationships with medical experts and healthcare professionals (HCPs) to create a better understanding of the company’s products and increase product awareness.
- Lead medical-scientific engagements with medical experts and implement clinical and educational strategies.
- Respond to unsolicited medical enquiries and provide clinical and scientific support for HCPs, including answering questions about products, drug interactions, side effects, and other related issues.
- Provide medical information (including sharing the insights gained in medical-scientific conversations with HCPs) to internal stakeholders.
- Support the efforts of patient advocacy groups and educational foundations.
- Provide medical and scientific input into the planning and execution of advisory boards and HCP educational meetings (including congresses of medical professional societies) and additional medical-scientific background where requested.
- Coordinate required medical, legal, and regulatory review and approval of all field documents for distribution or presentation.
- The job requires 60-70% travel.
Qualifications
- Ph.D., PharmD. or MD strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in the fields of neurology and cardiology strongly preferred.
- A minimum of five years experience in Pharma Medical Affairs or related functions. MSL experience, at least for three years strongly preferred.
- Proven basic science and clinical background to enable engagement with Health Care Professionals in a scientifically meaningful exchange.
- Experience in clinical research, patient recruitment, investigator-sponsored trials.
- Publication experience.
- Experience in medical education and medical expert engagement.
- Multi-lingual capability with business fluency in English preferred.
- Excellent communication skills; oral and written, including presentation skills to effectively communicate evidence-based scientific information.
