Cohen & Company is seeking a Tax Partner with a focus in Private Funds, an entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to client service to join our team!  

 

The Private Fund practice consists of a suite of offerings, primarily focused on tax compliance and advisory services to private funds and their advisers. Examples of such services are preparation of Form 1065’s, Schedule K-1's, tax structuring, tax outsourcing, international tax issues, state tax issues and other ad-hoc consulting.  Value is typically driven through a model of high-touch and proactive client service and is supported by a strong compliance, operational, and technology infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

Business Development: 

  • Responsible for strategy and growth of the firm’s services to Private Funds, including identifying market trends, anticipating opportunities, and developing go-to-market strategies/plans 
  • Build strong relationships and interact regularly with clients, internal client partners and up-and-coming talent, external industry groups, Centers of Influence, industry Market Leaders in adjacent sectors, and Service Line Leaders – coordinating to align skills with market trends and drive strategic technical leadership hires 
  • Establish sales and revenue goals, and actively manage a strategic business plan and opportunity pipeline that ensures these goals are met 

 

Client Experience: 

  • Serve and build relationships with clients, monitoring client service and value proposition, acting as trusted advisor to ensure we are a premium provider providing quality work, open communication, sound advice, and proactive service 
  • Develop a comprehensive approach to meet the needs of Private Funds clients, including leadership around Private Funds infrastructure with a focus on scaling the practice and demonstrating intellectual curiosity to ensure client needs are met 
  • Adjust client pricing, strategy, and services as necessary  

 

Leadership, Mentorship & Staff Development: 

  • Respect and celebrate the value of each of the stories, backgrounds, perspectives, and ideas of each of our team members, building meaningful relationships with all those you interact with 
  • Be growth oriented and work towards building a leveraged model, when appropriate 
  • Provide mentoring and motivation to the team, including developing young leaders via active contribution to training and development 
  • Exhibit forward thinking, innovation, and delivering an exceptional work product  

 

Technical: 

  • Perform partner level tax advisory, compliance review and tax return signoff 
  • Serve as a go-to resource for technical questions or knowledge 
  • Act as a technical and/or business leader both internally and externally  
Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree; CPA or JD  
  • 12+ years of progressive experience within tax, preferably in a public accounting firm and including leadership experience with a consistent record of accomplishment, accountability, and history of execution against budget and strategic initiatives 
  • 3+ years Partner level or equivalent experience 
  • Proven thought leadership, advanced technical skills and in-depth knowledge within tax for investment partnerships, including experience with a broad range of investment strategies (i.e., fixed income, equities, private credit, private equity, venture capital, real estate, digital assets etc.) and understanding of onshore and offshore fund structures and tax withholding requirements and reporting
