Responsibilities:

The primary function of the Tribal Engagement Manager is to develop and implement Pattern’s tribal engagement program and serve as the company’s lead representative to Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities.

 

Focusing on outreach and partnership building, this role will provide thought leadership and visibility for tribal engagement strategies. It will work closely with internal interdepartmental teams and external teams to enhance cultural competency for meaningful partnerships and act as an advisor, thought partner, and expert resource to support the responsible development, construction, and operation of projects in the US and Canada.

 

This position is essential for promoting collaboration and building strong relationships with Tribal Nations, organizations, businesses, and other key stakeholders.

 

The role will report to the Senior Director of Public Engagement and work closely with development and will work closely with project developers and interdisciplinary team members on an ongoing basis.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement Tribal Engagement Program and serve as Pattern’s lead representative to Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with tribal cultural representatives and other tribal stakeholders to facilitate positive working relationships.
  • Cultivate relationships and partnerships with tribal communities and tribal community leaders to advance mutually beneficial outcomes including through tribal equity agreements, community benefits agreements, and the advancement of shared policy and advocacy objectives.
  • Support the development and implementation of internal programs and policies to promote corporate diversity goals inclusive of tribal members.
  • Influence and maintain programmatic processes, management systems, and policies to uphold Pattern's Tribal engagement commitments.
  • Record and track Pattern’s tribal and community engagement.
  • Support preparation and submission of necessary permits and approvals required to originate, develop, construct and operate proposed projects under applicable laws.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5+ years of direct experience working with Tribal governments and communities in the United States and/or Canada.

Additional Requirements

  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with Tribal leaders, staff, community members, and other stakeholders such as NGOs.
  • In-depth understanding of energy and environmental policies and issues affecting Tribal Nations and Indigenous Peoples.
  • Strong familiarity with Indigenous cultural norms and practices.
  • Flexible to travel up to 50%
  • Experience in preparing and presenting information in a clear and concise manner.
  • A hands-on, hard-working attitude, and can effectively contribute as a team player.
  • Commercial mindset, strong prioritization, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in an evolving and dynamic environment.
  • Passion for driving a transition to clean energy.

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $103,000 - $139,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
