We have an opportunity for an Infrastructure Platform Administrator with web infrastructure systems development or administration and technical support capabilities to join our Middleware Platforms team and help support our application and integrated hosting platforms. As we evolve with DevOps and migrations to the cloud we are looking for an individual with skills or an interest in gaining skills in both the infrastructure and development areas.
As an Infrastructure Platform Administrator for Middleware Platforms, you will have an operational role in sustaining and enhancing our platforms in support of business change. This includes:
- Automating maintenance and delivery tasks
- Systems administration and technical support
- Level 2 problem analysis and root cause analysis
- Technical implementation delivery
- Consulting with application development teams
You will work closely with a range of IT professionals and build experience supporting these exciting technologies. ICBC utilizes a broad range of enterprise technologies and applications allowing employees to obtain a breadth of knowledge across disciplines. Apache, WebSphere Application Server, MQ Series, AppConnect, API Connect and DataPower are ICBC’s anchor technologies for Middleware Platforms. Guidewire, Red Hat, Telus, Cisco, Microsoft, SAP, Oracle, Nutanix, F5, and Citrix are some of our technology providers. In-house developers follow a disciplined agile methodology to provide our customers with updates and enhancements to our Insurance, Claims and Drivers Licensing offerings.
Position Requirements:
Successful candidates will have:
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated documentation skills.
- A Computer Science degree or recognized two year diploma in Computer Systems.
- Linux administration skills (preferably Red Hat)
And some familiarity with some or all of:
- Windows server and desktop
- OpenShift administration / container provisioning
- Java and/or scripting
- Web application server deployments
- FTP servers, flow creation and troubleshooting
- Developing automation and deployment scripts
- Application design, debugging techniques and tools, and quality assurance practices relating to software development
- SDLC, DevOps and Cloud administration
- Monitoring tools and how to create and maintain alerts
The following specified technical tools are used by the Middleware Platforms team. Experience with any of these are highly desirable but not required:
- Java or .NET application platforms administration (WebSphere Application Server, IIS, Tomcat)
- Middleware application administration (DataPower, Integration Bus, MQ Series, GlobalScape)
- Web infrastructure (Proxies, Network Load Balancers, Firewalls, PKI, F5 ASM/APM/LTM)
- Continuous Integration Technologies (Jenkins, Subversion, GitLab)
- Automation technologies (Ansible, Puppet, SVN, GitRunner)
- Virtualization technologies (VmWare, Nutanix)
- Exposure to Containers (OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Monitoring technologies (Dynatrace, Splunk, Nagios, SCOM, Opnet)

Work arrangements defined:
- Resident – you will work at your primary in-office headquarters on all scheduled work days.
- Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
- Hybrid 10 – you will work a minimum of 10 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically one week in/one week out or up to 3 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
- Mobile – you will work a significant amount of time in the field, in addition to working from an office and optionally working remotely within British Columbia.
