Manager, Marketing & Communications (Programs/Products)

 

 

Organizational Overview

The Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) is committed to helping end heart rhythm disorders and saving lives. HRS is the international leader in science, education and advocacy for cardiac arrhythmia professionals and patients, and the primary information resource on heart rhythm disorders. HRS’s mission is to improve patient care by promoting research, education and optimal health care policies and standards. HRS represents more than 7,500 cardiac pacing and electrophysiology professionals in over 70 countries.

Position Summary

Develops, implements, and manages marketing and communication activities that align with the organization’s strategic plan. The primary focus of this role is the marketing and communications of HRS programs and products. The position plays a critical role in the organization’s ability to increase HRS program and product awareness, engagement, conversions, and revenue, relating to education (in-person meetings, virtual/online meetings, on-demand education via HRS365, and print and digital journals) and other potential initiatives identified by the Board of Trustees and member-led committees. 

 

The incumbent is responsible for managing marketing and communication activities across owned, shared, earned, and paid media, including digital, offline (live/in-person events) and print. Develops content and asset (GIFs, video, graphics, images, copy, etc.) for social media, email, and web pages, while also working with creative freelancers for heavier creative assignments such as direct mail packages, print ads, print collateral, signage, booth designs, branding, and logo development, etc.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Reports to and works closely with the Assoc. Director, MarComm to develop and execute HRS program and product marketing and communications campaigns to support the Society’s Strategic Plan and budget priorities to increase:
    1. Awareness (e.g., disease states, membership, meetings, products, services, etc.)
    2. Engagement (e.g., members, prospects, attendees, online learners, readers of HRS journals, patients, caregivers, media, partners and sponsors, etc.)
    3. Conversions
      1. Non-revenue generating (e.g., social media fans/followers/page likes, email subscribers, abstract submissions, participation in activities such as Heart Rhythm Bowl, journal paper submissions, calls for journal editors in chief and editorial boards, applications for HRS volunteer opportunities and scholarships, survey solicitations, award nominations, scholarship applications, etc.)
      2. Revenue generating (e.g., meeting registration, online learning purchases, subscribers, fundraising appeals, membership acquisitions, etc.)
    4. Loyalty (e.g., repeat buyers, word of mouth, etc.)
  2. Build and manage strategic relationships with:
    1. HRS members and volunteers (e.g., Board of Trustees, committee members, faculty, early career/Fellows-in-Training, allied professionals, international, etc.)
    2. External vendors and partners (e.g., freelancers, consultants, agency partners, Google product reps, social media platform reps, content creation tool reps, print and mailshops reps, etc.)
    3. Co-Sponsorship/Reciprocal partners (i.e., similar/sister organizations such as American Heart Association, American Medical Association, American College of Cardiology, StopAFib.org, etc.)
    4. Industry partners (e.g., leading companies in the field of EP/cardiology such as Medtronic, Biosense Webster, etc.)
  3. Collaborate with appropriate staff across departments to:
    1. Provide marketing and communications support (i.e., identify needs, develop appropriate solutions, execute tactics, provide results and analysis)
    2. Represent the marketing and communications function in cross-department meetings and on cross-department teams/projects.

4.  Work alongside and provide support for AVP and Assoc. Director, MarComm for:

  1. Development of new initiatives 
  2. Budget management
  3. Development and execution of MarComm plans, strategies, and tactics

5.  Act as Staff Liaison for Communications Committee

  1. Collaborate with and support the Committee’s Chairs
  2. Facilitate collaboration between Communications Committee, HRStv Subcommittee, Journal Subcommittee and other committees as needed.
  3. Coordinate Committee calls
  4. Compile and distribute meeting minutes and Committee member disclosure reports.
  5. Manage committee programs and projects.

6.  Ensure marketing campaigns and content creation is accurate and uses consistent branding and messaging across all channels.

  1. Enforce brand standards and policies throughout all HRS communications.
  2. Distribute and enforce brand standards and policies to all external partners and vendors.

7.  Contribute to the development and management of the master content calendar for all marketing channels across the organization.

8.  Support the launch, management, and execution of a new marketing automation platform, including integrations with Salesforce and HRS websites. 

9.  Utilize HRS’ ESP (currently Informz) to develop and execute email campaigns (i.e., template and layout, copywriting, graphics/images, audience targeting/segmentation, deployment strategies, subject line testing, and performance monitoring/reporting). Email marketing products include: 

  1. My HRS365 (the Society’s monthly digital learning e-newsletter)
  2. HRStv monthly e-newsletter
  3. Ad hoc updates/alerts via dedicated emails (e.g., Health Policy, Society news, co-sponsorships/endorsed programs, IBHRE, etc.)
  4. Program/product email campaigns (e.g., HRX, Core Concepts, Heart Rhythm VR, Passport, The Lead, The Beat, Journals, Fundraising/Donation campaigns, etc.) 

10.  Develops and executes organic social media campaigns and community management (platform evaluation, competitive analysis, social strategy development, content calendar development, content creation/writing, community engagement, reporting and analysis).

  1. Channels: Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube
  2. Social media management platform: Sprout Social
  3. Large-scale social media activations (e.g., social ambassador groups such as the Pace Setters, Xplorers, etc.)

11. Supports the development of and manages production of print collateral as needed (e.g., meeting signage, meeting collateral, booth designs, etc.).

12. Manages print ads for in-house publications and paid ads in non-HRS publications. 

13. Provides content and creative direction for HRS digital properties (e.g., HRSonline.org, HRSsessions.org, HeartRhythm365.org, UpBeat.org, etc.).

14. Provide strategic support and marketing assets as needed for HRS’s participation at external meetings, tradeshows, and special events (e.g., onsite print collateral, exhibit booth design, HRS-branded merchandise, etc.).

15. Fulfill HRS marketing and communications obligations for all reciprocal and sponsorship agreements.

16. Develops and executes direct mail campaigns (ideation, strategic development, budget tracking, copywriting, creative direction, audience segmentations, draft production notes, bid and award jobs, print production oversight, and performance reporting and analysis).

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, English, communications, journalism, or similar field. 
  • Experience Required
    1. Four (4) to six (6) years of experience in a marketing/communications role and digital marketing
    2. Two (2) to four (4) of experience in product marketing/communications
    3. Three (3) to four (4) years of experience in project management
    4. Coordinating multiple projects simultaneously
    5. Association/society or healthcare experience
  • Technical Skills Preferred
    1. MS Office

    3. Graphic Design: Canva (or a similar tool)
