Summary of Job Duties:
The Research Associate will conduct cancer-related sample prep and molecular profiling tasks under the direction of the UAMS Genomics Core Scientific Director and/or the UAMS Genomics Core Operations Manager. These laboratory experiments are related to the study of cancer biology from members of the UAMS Cancer Institute. Works independently and may supervise more junior members with experiments. Duties include ordering all necessary supplies and ensuring they are received and stored properly; performing tumor/tissue sample prep, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and other molecular profiling (e.g., microarray) experiments; recording, summarizing and presenting experimental results to the Scientific Director and/or Operations Manager; directing the work of junior lab co-workers, including problem-solving, experiment design, and management of equipment maintenance.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, biology or other related science PLUS six (6) years in a Biomedical Technology Lab or similar research environment.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Assists principal investigators in maintaining and repairing laboratory equipment, and makes repairs and recommendations
  • Participates in procurement and inventory of laboratory equipment/supplies and oversees compliance with the numerous University, State and Federal guidelines for the safe operation of a core laboratory
  • Plans and implements multiple experimental animal procedures
  • Develops, implements, and manages data collection, analysis, and reports. Contributes to original research ideas and assists in preparation of written reports related to projects and data analysis
  • Conducts research work and participates in writing research protocols, storing and managing data files, and providing statistical analysis
  • Trains and supervises research staff in laboratory operations and protocols
  • Performs other duties as assigned
