Job Overview

We invite you to join our dynamic team as the Intellectual Property (IP) Law Director. In this pivotal role, you will navigate the intersection of federal procurement law and progressive business strategies, significantly impacting the federal marketplace. Your leadership will empower innovation and address critical missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Intellectual Property (IP) Legal Team, anticipating business needs in the federal sector.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to devise integrated strategies that enhance the entire innovation lifecycle.
  • Establish and implement IP and technology strategies, ensuring the protection of IP rights across various domains including patents, trade secrets, copyrights, trademarks, and licensing.
  • Oversee the registered IP portfolio and work closely with Sector Counsels to refine our current IP ecosystem.
  • Partner with the Deputy General Counsel, Sector Operations, and the Office of the Chief Technology Officer to foster foundational shifts essential for innovation.
  • Implement risk-based approaches and streamline processes in collaboration with cross-functional teams to address legal and regulatory challenges.

Required Skills

  • Excellent problem-solving, listening, and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal concepts into actionable business strategies.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic IP counsel across various transactions, including investments, partnerships, and mergers.
  • Experience in managing IP portfolios effectively, including patent and trademark preparation and prosecution.
  • Leadership capabilities to guide attorneys, paralegals, and other professionals in the department.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in IP law, gained within a law firm, corporate in-house setting, or government legal department.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing IP portfolios and engaging in IP transaction negotiations.
  • Profound understanding of federal procurement laws, including FAR and DFARS.
  • Expertise in trade secret enforcement and copyright filings is preferred.
  • A J.D. degree and admission to the Bar in any state or the District of Columbia are required.

The compensation range for this position is approximately \(181,100 to \)337,000 annually, contingent upon factors such as location, education, skills, and experience. This position may also require a security clearance.
