The Principal Data System Architect is responsible for designing and implementing short and long-term strategic goals for managing and maintaining data systems and pipelines. The Principal Data System Architect will assume the role of technology expert in addressing issues related to systems, compatibility, and data ingestion/transformation (ETL/ELT).


Role and Responsibilities
  • Work with internal and external contacts to receive and document requests for all major data projects.
  • Complete all planning and sequencing of development issues once specifications have been documented.
  • Ensure data structures and frameworks are sufficient to support technical needs (ETL/ELT, Analytics, AI/ML), while preparing for future growth.
  • Act as a subject matter expert by assisting developers to ensure development meets business needs.
  • Resolve complex time-sensitive support and development issues.
  • Complete peer code reviews and testing for complex time-sensitive issues.
  • Complete project roadmap to reduce backlog of unscheduled tech debt issues.
  • Create standards and best practices for development and testing protocols.
  • Understand TREND’s future technology plans thoroughly and recommend emerging trends for data infrastructure.
  • Diagnose production problems and provide technical, strategic, and procedural support.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to design both short- and long-term improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in Computer Science or related field required. Equivalent work experience in a similar position may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Significant experience using Databricks and building complex data pipelines on the platform.
  • Experience in working with internal and external contacts to obtain project requirements.
  • Experience creating roadmaps for project development and architecting individual project components.
  • Ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks and prioritize business needs.
  • Strong written, verbal and customer service skills.
  • Experience designing system architectures including meta-data driven ETL/ELT frameworks.
  • Experience with software development life cycle tools such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, and Jira.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with processing data containing billions of records and hundreds of fields, leading to terabytes of data.
  • Experience creating and maintaining complex T-SQL queries, tables, functions, triggers, views, and stored procedures.
  • Experience creating dynamic SQL in a multi-database environment.
