The Role:
The Career Pathways Guide will provide high-touch, highly person-centered individualized services to a caseload of 30+ participants (individuals who are eligible for ORR services, “refugees”). The Career Pathways Guide will conduct community outreach, assessment, intake, resource and referral, work closely with refugees to develop their personalized career development plans, and bridge refugees’ experience with educational and employer partners.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Outreach* 15%
- Conduct outreach at area colleges, universities, community-based organizations, etc. to actively promote the program; focus on both eligible community members and students. Work in tandem with Alight’s Program Manager and Program Director.
- Conduct outreach through various methods including flyers, brochures, radio ads and more; work in tandem with Alight’s Program Manager and Communication Manager and adhere to agency policies and procedures.
2. Enrollment and Assessment* 15%
- Screen participants for eligibility to specific programs as outlined by funder guidelines
- Enroll participants and complete appropriate intake process according to funder and agency policies.
- Work closely with participants to develop their personalized career development plans
3. Education and Career Coordination* 30%
- Provide highly person-centered support to guide participants.
- Develop and maintain relationships with educational partners and gain in-depth knowledge of credit for prior learning, credit for prior experience and transfer of credit opportunities.
- Assist participants navigate college/university or career pathway enrollment process, including identifying school, gathering transcripts, applying for financial aid, apply international transcripts that have been reviewed, accessing credit for prior learning/experience and transfer of credit options as needed, etc. and provide support for participants who are currently enrolled in college.
- Assess individual eligibility for tuition assistance (after application of Financial Aid) in line with agency and funder policies.
- Assess individual needs and eligibility for support services that are in line with the agency and funder policies.
- Support persons throughout their career pathway experience in order to see participants graduate or successfully complete course.
- Assist participant in maintaining and adjusting their personalized career development plan as relevant.
4. Job Readiness and Employment* 20%
- Work in tandem with Program Manager who develops and maintains formal and informal employer partnerships; continuously share participants' education, work history and employment goals with the Program Manager and provide job leads to participants.
- Provide support such as resume building, application assistance, interview preparation, and general U.S. employer cultural onboarding, among other things as needed.
- Connect participants to specialized services, such as English Language training.

5. Data/File Management and Reporting* 15%
- Consistently meet outcomes defined by grantor (ORR) and Alight.
- Contribute to department-wide performance on outcomes.
- Input required data into digital databases, including Workforce One, Salesforce, and/or other platforms as necessary, in an accurate and timely manner for all participants.
- Maintain all required case file documentation per grantors and agency policies.
- Ensure thorough and accurate case notes in online case management system.
- Participate in periodic internal and external (funder) case file monitoring.
6. Other Responsibilities* 5%
- Refer participants to Alight’s and referral partners’ services to support participant's economic-self-sufficiency and to meet funder outcome requirements.
- Adhere to proper confidentiality practices and complete yearly trainings as required by Alight and funder.
- Other duties, responsibilities, and projects assigned.
Regular travel within the Twin Cities Metro Area is expected, and occasional travel to Greater MN, Washington, D.C.

We’re also looking for the following competencies:
- You recognize that all of Alight’s work starts with displaced people, and it’s going to be your job to make sure we satisfy our customers by training and orientating private sponsor groups to support them.
- Fluent in English and a second language proficiency (Somali, Oromo, Amharic, Swahili, Spanish, etc.), and comfortable communicating in-person, over the phone and via email. Ability to proficiently speak/write/read/understand English required.
- Two years of professional experience in college/educational counseling, employment/vocational counseling, or other human services area preferred.
- Knowledge of the higher education system preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, counseling/coaching, and conflict resolution skills required.
- Ability to pay attention to detail, balance competing priorities, shift focus quickly, and adhere to deadlines required.
- Ability to learn and use a variety of computer programs competently to perform daily work.
- Knowledge of systemic social and economic challenges faced by refugees preferred.
- Knowledge of educational and community resources preferred.
- Knowledge of refugee career pathways programming preferred.
- Ability to make a human connection and engage with a variety of people in an ever-changing environment.
- You understand how to track information and are highly organized.
- You work well with a lot of freedom and do your best work in a culture that does the doable with whatever resources we have.
- You are culturally agile and are invigorated by co-creating with multiple partners.
- You have a founders’ spirit, embrace ambiguity, and are joyful to the people you serve and work beside.
- You deliver your work generously and take ownership of everything that lands in your lap.
- Driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Check clearance along with access to dependable transportation required.

Salary Range:
$50,000 to $55,000
