Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides comprehensive, accessible, home-based and center-based health services to families enrolled in Akin’s Early Head Start or Head Start program. Provides services that promote the enrolled children’s physical, emotional, and social development and promote family health practices that enhance lifelong well-being and prevent illness and injury. Delivers services in a family-centered, culturally-appropriate manner.  Will oversee the development and implementation of a health component for Early Head Start, Head Start and/or ECEAP(health, nutrition and safety plans and services, including monitoring, employee training and evaluation) that will meet or exceed Head Start and ECEAP Performance Standards as well as state child care licensing requirements. Has access to protected healthcare information (PHI) or confidential identifiable information (CII), both paper and electronic, as necessary, to perform related job duties and responsibilities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides health referrals and facilitates access to health services for families, including primary care, dental services, nutrition, family planning, maternity or childbirth education
  • Works as member of the interdisciplinary Resource Team to assist in the development of a Family Goals, which will identify family strengths, needs and goals
  • Supports and ensures the completion of health screenings and well-child exams for all enrolled children
  • Works with health care providers to complete a classroom health care plan for children with a disclosed diagnosis or chronic condition
  • Develops educational materials and participate in education events for parents and employee
  • Participates in meetings including Health Services Advisory Committee, team reviews, and other agency meetings where appropriate
  • Assists in monitoring compliance with Head Start, ECEAP or state licensing health and safety standards
  • Regularly consults with a Registered Nurse, Nutritionist or Dietician
  • Utilizes the ChildPlus System to enter or retrieve client information
  • Assists with data collection, aggregation, analysis and reporting for overall program
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Office 365 and working with databases
  • Attention to detail for data entry software, such as Child Plus

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This job is performed in a professional environment on-site at a Akin office or remotely. The following list is representative of the work environment employees encounter while performing the essential functions of this job:

WORKING REMOTELY:

Working remotely is a benefit of Akin’s flexible workplace, but remote work cannot be offered for all positions. Some positions require daily presence in the office. Remote work arrangements may be adjusted or rescinded based upon business needs.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard; occasionally to reach, stoop and kneel
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A. or B.A. in Community Health, Public Health Administration, Nutrition or equivalent degree (e.g. Social Work, Psychology) along with experience. Knowledge and experience with child health and development
  • Proof of CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification is required or obtained within 30 days of hire
  • Proof of physical exam (updated every three years), including a one step Mantoux TB skin test prior to start of employment. For those who have previously tested positive, documented proof of treatment from a doctor or a negative chest x-ray must be provided
  • Washington State Driver’s License
  • HIV/AIDS and Blood borne pathogen training within 30 days of hire
  • Successful completion of a drivers check if position requires driving on a regular basis (at least three times per week) or drives clients. Must not have two or more driving incidents within the last three years
  • Completion of Akin and DCYF criminal history background check, including registry with MERIT to include fingerprinting

 

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

The salary range for this position is $25.07 - $34.57. The starting salary range for this position is $25.07 - $27.45 DOE for external candidates.

Employees will also receive 10 days of vacation leave each year, three Employee Appreciation Day each year, and will accrue one sick day per month (pro-rated for part-time employees). Employees will also enjoy 15 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.  We also offer EAP and mental health benefits.
