Responsibilities

Role Summary:

The Vice President of Finance - Performance Improvement & Integration, oversees financial activities, policies, procedures and practices for the ministry. Provides executive-level management of financial resources; strategic, financial and capital planning; and development of the Finance organization in support of Ascension’s cost/efficiency levers and ancillary businesses. The VP of Finance - Performance Improvement & Integration is responsible for stewardship and safeguarding the organization’s assets. This includes complying with defined elements of the financial integrity program. In alignment with Ascension’s strategic plan, the VP of Finance - Performance Improvement Integration drives collective responsibility for business operations and sound financial management. Formulates and oversees the organization's financial planning, policies, and practices in collaboration with executive leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the development and execution of the operational infrastructures’ vision, policies, and short/long-term objectives.
  • Supports financial, operational, and strategic initiatives to ensure goals as directed by the EVP, Nursing and Operations Infrastructure and SVP & CFO, Growth & Ancillary Businesses are met.
  • Ability to understand, present and explain complex financial data in a clear and understandable manner to market, Division, and System stakeholders.
  • Responsible for ensuring alignment with System wide business strategies with market leadership teams
  • Fosters a culture of appreciation, belongingness, inclusivity, diversity, and equity to drive the associate experience

Labor/Productivity (in alignment with the SVP Operations Infrastructure leaders in Labor and Productivity):

  • Partners with the Regional SVP - Operations CFOs and SVP - Operations Infrastructure to monitor, develop and implement a productivity strategy that supports the Operational Strategy to produce measurable financial improvements.
  • Participates in Market or Division meetings in alignment with SVP Operations Infrastructure,to provide information on productivity metrics, areas of opportunity, and most importantly proposed solutions to identified challenges.
  • Assists in leading process improvement projects related to improving productivity within the Division by working with division, market, and hospital leadership.
  • Develop performance standards, metrics, and operation procedures that support the division strategy, policies, and procedures.
  • In alignment with SVP Operations Infrastructure Labor and Productivity Team,co-creates, teaches, and implements processes, tools, educational materials that enable leaders and teams to understand and interpret data and use the tools to improve productivity.
  • Understand and apply industry best practices, standards, and regulations related to productivity tools, financial analysis, auditing and reporting.
  • Provide analytical support for benchmarking, productivity monitoring, tracking and reporting systems.
  • Ensure timely and accurate benchmarking audits, data submission, report generation and associated manager education regarding report interpretation and improvement opportunity identification.
  • Provide analytical support, training, and education of benchmarking and productivity systems and reports.
  • Provide key analysis and evaluation of a Division’s performance to support operational improvement and other performance management efforts.
  • In alignment with SVP Operations Infrastructure Labor and Productivity team, partner with market, division, and System Finance, Accounting and other teams on labor budget process and assist in the development of productivity targets.
  • Lead the efforts in setting labor budgets at departmental level by utilizing productivity and benchmarking concepts; support local teams and the system director of labor management to finalized labor budgets in the set timeline.

Additional Cost Levers:

  • Assesses and optimizes cost opportunities that drive performance in enterprise-wide operations.
  • Recommends process improvement models for expense reduction and coordinates integration of cross functional activities between ancillary businesses
  • Partner with FP&A to ensure planning, budgeting and forecasting assumptions incorporate cost lever goals
  • Partner with ADSI to ensure data analytics initiatives support and drive performance and goal achievement.

  • Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 7 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 4 of those years being in leadership/management.
