This role can be a Director & Actuary or Director & Assistant Actuary depending on the skills and experience of the candidate.

The Director is responsible for developing countrywide Homeowners reserves and communicating Homeowners loss performance across The Hartford’s $1.0B countrywide Homeowners portfolio. This position will manage two direct reports.

This role will work closely with other Actuarial partners as well as Claims Performance Analytics, Product, and Data Science.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in weekly Homeowners Business System meetings with cross-functional leadership.

  • Monitor and analyze loss ratio, frequency, and severity performance.

  • Communicate nuanced reserve selections to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Provide thought partnership and support to the Countrywide Pricing team.

  • Direct strategic initiatives across the Personal Lines Actuarial team by managing data engineering capacity and prioritization.

  • Coach and develop direct reports.

  • Partner with Claims Performance Analytics to understand operational and environmental trends, including large losses and nuances by peril.

  • Innovate new tools and routines that advance our analytical capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of P&C insurance experience.

  • FCAS strongly preferred.

  • R and SQL proficiency.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.  Direct people management experience is attractive but not required. 

  • Proven track record proactively challenging existing processes, influencing business decisions, and driving execution within deadlines and other parameters.

  • Team player adept at building trusting, collaborative, and effective partnerships

  • Ability to own projects, overcome obstacles, and anticipate customer needs.

  • Bias for innovation.

  • Accomplished in independent problem-solving and troubleshooting.

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, including attention to detail.

  • Experience working independently as well as part of a team.

  • Adaptability to dynamic priorities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Location:

This role is eligible for a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.  Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).   Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise. 

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$130,400 - $217, 320

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
