Working Capital Controller (12 month FTC)
Base Location: Watford, Reading, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow or Leeds plus network of 20 offices nationally:

The role of the Working Capital Controller is to help Engagement Leaders to manage their client portfolio and create maximum efficiency in billing and recovery, which includes ensuring timely management of the lock-up process. The Working Capital team act as trusted advisors to Engagement Leaders with the principle objective of optimising revenue, engagement profitability and speed of cash collection.
With a turnover in excess of £2billion and a payroll of close to 17,000 partners and staff across 22 UK offices, our Finance team covers a huge spectrum of work. It spans everything from being closely involved in supporting the organisation's business strategy to tightly managing critical business functions like employee payroll, expenses, accounts payable and billing.
What will you be doing?
- Acquire a thorough understanding of the business area being supported
- To drive, develop and maintain close links with Engagement Leaders and conduct monthly face to face meetings with partners to discuss all WIP and Debtor balances.
- Comprehensive follow-up of action items, such as time write off, billing action. This includes follow up of all debt collection discussions Assist in the execution of credit control framework to ensure debtors to be collected in a timely manner.
- Coordination and submission of monthly billing forecast estimates, ensuring that estimates are accurate, reflective of partner conversations and all pledged invoices materialise
- Promoting the use of the budgeting tool
- Managing Lock Up Days – to regularly review WIP and debtor lock up days for Engagement Leaders, to monitor trigger points of billing/ write offs, so ensuring early revenue action to maintain optimum working capital hygiene from a WIP perspective.
- Work closely with Engagement Leaders on credit control issues to unlock debts as quickly as possible. Key examples are influencing Engagement Leaders to follow credit management and commercial policy and normal debt-chasing processes on all their bills, highlighting any queries or disputes where partner intervention is required, highlighting the oldest and/or largest debts
- Review aged WIP for working capital hygiene purposes to clear WIP that is no longer recoverable
- Play a role in the broader finance community, including active participation in meetings and use of finance wide tools and systems to allow a fluid transfer of knowledge and information
What will you need to do it?
- Demonstrable Working Capital management experience.
- Intermediate level Excel essential, with ability to use other Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Pro-active self-starter with drive, enthusiasm and tenacity, possessing excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to communicate to a non-financially literate audience
- Will need to be visible with the confidence to advise, encourage, and sometimes challenge Engagement Leaders Ability to process large amounts of information quickly & be interested in rapid learning
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that helps create, build and maintain strong working relationships.
- Able to work well under pressure with respect to meeting targets and deadlines
- Good organisational skills, able to multi-task and deal with urgent requests. Possess strong time management skills
- Close attention to detail, willingness to take on any task and flexibility in work hours, as necessary, to meet business objectives and requirements.
Skills we’d love to see/Amazing Extras:
- SAP experience preferred but not essential.
- Experience of working in professional services.
