The GenAI Platform team is responsible for DigitalOcean’s GenAI Platform which is the simplest way to build generative ai applications. GenAI Platform covers Knowledge Bases, AI Agents, Model Inference while integrating with DigitalOcean’s ecosystem of products. GenAI Platform is a highly technical product made simple both internally and for customers. 

We’re looking for a highly motivated, hands-on technical engineering manager to support our engineers and drive an engineering culture to build. This person will be responsible for facilitating career development, aligning engineers' work to their goals and company goals, and providing coaching so people can grow.

For internal search: GenAI is a new innovative platform under DigitalOcean umbrella, and we are looking for an experienced engineering manager to combine deep knowledge of existing platforms with the passion for AI/ML,  innovation and people management. AI/ML team is rapidly growing, while delivering complex new products on short timelines; we are looking for somebody to strengthen our engineering leadership, and directly influence delivery of one of the ELT strategic initiatives. 

What You’ll Do:
  • Planning and executing complex technical projects
  • Collaborating with technical leads and contributing to the overall architecture, design, and development of AI/ML projects
  • Collaborating with cross functional teams in infrastructure, operations, support, core services and systems engineering to design idiomatic, innovative, sustainable solutions
  • Working with the product team to ensure successful product and feature rollouts from requirements analysis through implementation and long-term operations
  • Managing software project schedules to meet and communicate timelines in a rapidly changing industry
  • Developing processes and tools to improve team performance and quality-of-life
  • Developing processes and tools to improve product performance and quality
  • Supporting the goals and developing growth opportunities for team members by providing coaching via mentoring, one-on-one meetings, etc
  • Facilitating transparent, constructive communication between team members
  • Recruiting, managing, and maintaining a world-class engineering team
What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:
  • Strong interest and experience in development platforms, AI/ML, CI/CD, infrastructure or making products for technical teams
  • Experience with system, API, infrastructure design using cloud concepts such as storage volumes, private networks, load balancers, virtual machines
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high growth tech environment building and scaling internal platforms using Javascript, Typescript, or Go
  • Able to make effective trade-offs in regards to both engineering and product requirements, while balancing short term and long term needs
  • Experience shipping products at scale and on-time, with a focus on the customer
  • Experience managing and delivering projects throughout the entire SDLC
  • Experience with end-to-end quality best practices and their implementation
  • Experience with staffing, interviewing, building, and retaining teams
  • Experience managing, coaching, and mentoring software engineers
  • Experience conveying complex ideas in written, verbal and presentational formats to get buy ins from diverse stakeholders

  • We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is between $188,000 - $235,000 based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
