The Lead Payroll Tax Associate is a subject matter expert that will process, audit, adjust and submit payroll taxes in a multi-state environment. This role will conduct the training of team members, serve as next level support, collaborate with cross functional departments, and assist with process improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the coordination of daily payroll tax activities and functions at the advisement of leadership.
- Lea ds processing and auditing for periodic, quarter, and year-end payroll tax related tasks to include support of timely filing of Federal, State, and local tax wages and withholdings in a multi-state environment.
- Serves as point of escalations for issues arising with payroll tax registration in new or suspended jurisdictions.
- Represents the payroll tax processing team with business partners to identify challenges and provide solutions through changing business needs.
- Serves as subject matter expert (SME) and partner for internal and external auditing companies, and third-party vendors for tax filings.
- Assists with research and resolution of any issues related to tax return filing discrepancies, including penalty notices and abatement requests.
- Collaborates with accounting team to research and resolve variances.
- Maintains understanding of overall equity programs including profit share and stock option exercises to support tax needs.
- Audits work of other team members to ensure tax compliance and provides training for knowledge gaps.
- Coordinates, develops, and maintains written documentation regarding payroll procedures and processes necessary for reference and training materials.
- Researches and answers complex questions and resolves payroll tax issues while functioning as the next level for support and process adjustments.
- Ensures tax compliance with Federal, State, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Stays informed of payroll processing system updates and changes in wage and tax laws, maintaining compliance by corresponding with Federal, State, and Local Tax Agencies to provide guidance to leaders and team members.
- Participates in testing, validation and rollout of changes and upgrades with the Payroll and Timekeeping systems by (i.e., system patches, upgrades, or enhancements).
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

- Experience with processing multiple companies, multiple tax jurisdictions; multiple time and attendance systems.
- Ability to adapt to changing environment and support of multiple demands.

- Experience working both independently and, in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Demonstrates ability in leadership or managing others.

Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
- 4+ years' experience in payroll or accounting working with taxes for multi-state and large corporations required.
Computer Skills
- Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word.
- Oracle Software or equivalent ERP Payroll Software.
