SMS is seeking an experienced Sr. Virtualization Administrator/Engineer to lead virtualization efforts, focusing on VMware infrastructure (ESXi, Horizon, NSX) and VDI solutions across remote sites. The ideal candidate will ensure the secure, efficient deployment and management of VMware stacks while driving best practices and innovative solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead technical planning, system integration, and deployment of VMware virtualization solutions, including ESXi, Horizon, and NSX-T/NSX-V.
  • Develop and maintain detailed system documentation, including topology and system diagrams.
  • Design and implement security baseline configurations (CIS benchmarks, STIGs) and ensure data assurance across virtual environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, mitigating risks and ensuring timely project delivery.
  • Support the deployment of Horizon/VDI solutions, including telework-focused VDI environments.
  • Collaborate with teams on network performance and security hardening (UAG, Horizon Security).
  • Identify system integrity issues, conducting full lifecycle support from design to operational maintenance.
Qualifications:

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in VMware systems engineering, including virtual network design, analysis, and deployment.
  • Expertise in VMware vSphere (7.x/8.x) and Horizon View (7.x/8.x), including NSX-T/NSX-V for network virtualization.
  • Experience with storage solutions, including SAN/NAS technologies (Fiber Channel, iSCSI, NFS/CIFS).
  • Proficiency in network engineering for multiprotocol routers, switches, and security devices.
  • Experience with security hardening (CIS, STIGs) and performance optimization for virtual systems.
  • Experience with hyper-converged platforms.
  • Proficient in developing and maintaining system documentation, using tools like Visio.
  • DoD 8750 IAT Level II, CompTIA Security+ or CCNA Security, or higher certification. (e.g., CISSP)
  • Active DoD Secret clearance (Top Secret clearance is a plus).
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher VMware certification.
  • Familiarity with Unified Access Gateway (UAG) and Horizon/VDI security configurations.
  • Hands-on experience with NVIDIA vGPU and other advanced virtualization graphics technologies.
  • Linux (RedHat, Ubuntu) and Windows Server system administration experience.
