Project description

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) in Nepal has requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to serve as English Language and Business Literacy Eco-tourism Specialists. Nepal has a very high potential for promoting tourism due to its unique natural and cultural heritage and diversity. One of Nepal’s tourism sector priorities is to expand community-based rural and home-stay eco-tourism; however, rural tourism faces a number of challenges including inadequate English language skills and inability to link entrepreneurship development with eco-tourism development.

The PCRVs will work closely with the assigned community counterparts to assess current English language skills of various stakeholders in the community, develop a schedule of classes of like-skilled and like-employed people to teach conversational English and written English appropriate to the learners’ level and needs, and provide group and one-on-one English language lessons in the assigned community and possible nearby communities. The PCRVs will also assist homestay business owners and hotel operators to improve business operations by teaching basic business literacy and marketing skills and work with local government officials and business organizations to evaluate opportunities to enhance tourist satisfaction and increase the tourism potential of the assigned community.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Nepal together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
