Your missions

Bitrefill is currently the world's largest crypto e-commerce site. Every day, thousands of people all over the world use our services to buy gift cards, top-up their Bitrefill Card or buy phone top-ups. Our mission is to allow people to live on cryptocurrency as easily as possible, with no bank or exchange account required.

We’ve come a long way already and built a fantastic reputation within our industry in the past 10 years. We are looking for a Legal Associate to join our Legal and Compliance team.

Please read the below to ensure you are happy with the description and qualify for the role before applying.

Application deadline: September 25th, 2024.

Your Mission:

As our Senior Legal Associate, you will join a team that is working at the edge of legal innovation in the exciting pursuit of financial freedom. Bitrefill is leading the way globally for crypto commerce and your role will have you impacting this journey from day one. You will play a critical role by working directly with the General Counsel in many different fields, from corporate to IP, data protection and regulatory, anti-money laundering and commercial contracts, across many global jurisdictions.

We are a small team. This means that everyone does a bit of everything, regardless of seniority. There's no work too small or too big for this position - such is the life of a startup lawyer. If you think you are too senior to do some things, this job is not for you. If you only want to work in your field of expertise or have a neatly fixed set of responsibilities, this job is not for you. This position requires you to have high integrity standards and be humble, flexible and proactive.

Bitrefill operates in multiple markets, spans numerous jurisdictions, and focuses on topics that are often uncharted and uncertain, providing you with dynamic and challenging opportunities to grow and take on responsibilities. It is also a genuinely amazing place to work, where you will feel respected, supported and valued. If you are the right person, you will absolutely love it.

Your responsibilities include:
  • Perform global regulations research on wildly different fields.
  • Prepare and discuss policy briefs with regulators, trade associations and industry partners.
  • Draft and review contracts, policies, and other legal documents.
  • Facilitate external onboarding processes, including KYC and KYB support.
  • Handle various legal issues, including corporate matters, data privacy, tax, and HR matters.
  • Conduct competition and intellectual property legal research.
  • Respond to internal legal inquiries and provide daily team Q&A support.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of internal AML controls and procedures.
  • Analyze and respond to regulatory or law enforcement requests.
  • Identify innovation opportunities within the legal space.
  • Assist the Legal and Compliance department where needed;
  • Be hungry to learn, fast to execute, do a lot with little, and care strongly about our vision, product and users;
  • Be a team player and a good colleague who will contribute to our unpretentious culture.
You bring with you:
  • Legal degree and bar qualification from a U.S or EU jurisdiction (exceptions to this only with proven crypto experience in these jurisdictions)
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience working as a qualified lawyer in a law firm or fintech/crypto business
  • Experience in one or more crypto, blockchain, financial regulations, financial crime, payments, or other adjacent areas.
  • Strong writing, research, and analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

It’s a plus if you also:

  • Have an all-rounded experience as a lawyer;
  • You are familiar with crypto (even if not professionally)
  • You are familiar with the GDPR.
We Offer:
  • Fully remote work from anywhere in the world or an office located centrally in Stockholm
  • Competitive salary and compensation adjusted to your seniority and awesome perks that will improve your well-being and education.
  • A great work environment with people that respect you, your time and your work-life balance
  • A network of talented colleagues with high ambitions for a world with more financial freedom
  • A great education when it comes to everything involving cryptocurrency
  • A team retreat and get-together twice each year (at different locations around the world)
